They broke my tooth! Then, they offered either a portion of my money back or to apply a credit towards the now root canal and cap I needed, or I could go get a 2nd opinion. Excuse me, but you broke my tooth! It's a little late for a second opinion. Avoid this practice if you don't want to be under informed and risk having a tooth broken and 650£ of work needed that you didn't need before going to Bristol Dental Practice. Further explanation : I was told I had excellent teeth during my exam. We discussed the age of an extremely old filling. I never had pain or problem with the tooth, but had recently experienced a minor sensation when having very cold liquid. It wasn't painful and i was told my old filling was "having a mechanical error". But I never once experienced pain when eating and as I was told, I had great teeth, very well looked after. As I sat in the chair after X rays and before my cleaning, right there in the chair i was presented with the option to replace the filling with a new material to prevent the rarely occurring sensation i felt with cold liquids. He said he could quickly do it before my cleaning, which i was surprised by, and never ONCE mentioned any risks. Foolishly now, I said OK as he flashed the price on his screen while I sat in the chair. NEVER once was I warned that changing the 26+ year old filling could result in cracking the tooth, and never once was I warned that if the new filling didn't go well I would need a very expensive and uncomfortable procedure of capping and and root canal! Remember I was told I had a great set of teeth and this was a simple change of filling that would only take a few moments, just before my scheduled cleaning. I was numbed, filling done, it seemed like he took a LOT of my tooth, as I felt the huge hole where the former cavity was and whatever portion of good tooth the dentist took out. But I trusted him as he was very friendly and seemed knowledgable. I was also numb, so I had no idea the pain was coming. Next I went to my cleaning, and just as I feared there was a moment when the hygenist said "whoops" and I felt something hard fly off, possibly part of my new tooth or the filling that was just put in moments prior to the cleaning. This isn't confirmed and nobody said anything after, but it seemed odd to quickly do a filling replacement right before a cleaning. Later that night as the novicane wore off, I was ready to use my new tooth/filling. I was told I could eat, floss and brush as normal straight away. Unfortunately for me, I had pain for the first time in my life while chewing and grinding things like apples, nuts, crisps, anything harder than a banana or piece of soft bread. I thought maybe it was temporary, but it wasn't. I called a couple days later to the practice and they had me right in. I was told my tooth was cracked. They tried to redo the filling but it wasn't working. He said I had a cracked tooth. Not fully understanding that what he meant to say was "I broke your tooth". I left that day not even understanding what had happened, and I was told to see how it went over the next few days with the new attempt of a filling. Still pain and discomfort when eating. It all dawned on me what happened so I went back in and was told that now I needed a cap, and possibly if the cap didn't work that I would need a root canal AND cap!!! I went from being told I had great teeth to now needing a ROOT CANAL! They offered to take the price of the filling off (but not the exam!) of the very expensive pricetag of the cap and root canal, or that they would refund my money to get a "second opinion". I'm sorry guys, it's a little late for a 2nd opinion. THEY BROKE MY TOOTH. And they wanted to charge me to fix it. Had I just been forewarned about the possibility that the filling would crack my tooth or there was any risk I would have NEVER replaced the perfectly fine 25 year old filling. So, so disappointed and now have to spend a ton of money to fix a problem that was created at this practice. What a disaster.

I've been with Bristol Dental Practice for many years and can't recommend them highly enough. They are the best dentist practice I have ever gone to, they look after your dental health brilliantly, they don't sell you expensive dental treatment that you don't need, they charge a fair price for any treatment and the whole team is absolutely lovely.

As is the same with most people, I'm not the biggest fan of seeing the dentist. However, Dr Jonathan Cochrane took the time to listen to my concerns, and really put me at ease before my [potentially scary] wisdom teeth extractions.. I feel that he provides the best care, I can't imagine seeing another dentist!!
