Really lovely place to visit. On entry the staff were welcoming. We took part in the Easter Quest which the children enjoyed. They got a sweet treat at the end for completing it. When we went in to the house, the staff there were helpful and knowledgeable about the history and explained the story of how so many pubs 400+ became known as The Royal Oak. We visited the Oak out in the field which is an acorn from the original where King Charles hid. We had an unexpected fire alarm on the day but the staff coordinated everything very well until it was safe for us to re-enter. Over all a lovely day, the good weather helped. The tasters of mead and ginger wine were also quite pleasant!
Lovely family day out with plenty of interesting local history and heritage. The guides are full of knowledge and do a great job of explaining the history behind the House. The 'tour' is interactive, which my 10 year old son really enjoyed. Cafe and play park for the kids after was very much appreciated.
Well worth a visit to this little gem. Not a huge place so easy to get around. The house has lots of Information and the staff are so helpful. A little walk to the oak tree. Tea room has outdoor seating in a sheltered spot to enjoy the atmosphere.
We had Really enjoyable trip here at the weekend. The staff are so friendly and have so much knowledge about the place and the history. I thought the facility's were brilliant as well. The cafe, play area, animals, gardens, play room and house were all good. Work was being done on the far park but it still has adequate spaces
Wow, what an amazing place. The staff are all so friendly, and knowledgeable. It was fun carrying the interactive candle around the house, and hearing all about the adventures, and escape of Charles the second. I really enjoyed walking around the small farm and garden, and seeing the Royal Oak tree. It was cold, wet and windy while l was there, so l will need to go again so that l can spend more time exploring all that the property has to offer.
Went to boscobel house as my girlfriend and I like visiting English heritage locations. We were welcomed by a very nice chap that gave us some brief information about the house and the royal Oak before we entered. It was a nice visit however we found that inside there was a lack of information regarding the different parts of the house. There was an interactive tour however all this did was show shadows on the walls and provided no information. Our favourite part of the experience was seeing the farm animals which included pigs, sheep, ducks and chickens. All in all a nice visit but simply lacked information unless you buy a guide book in the gift shop or cafe.
One of the hiding places of Charles II after Worcester. The Catholic underground of Shropshire saved the monarchy. The oak tree that Charles hid in once stood here. Now there is a tree from one of the acorns growing here . Well worth a visit to see the priest hole Charles spent the night in & learn of one of the greatest escapes in history. Lovely tea rooms & garden to walk around.
Visited with my granddaughter, great day out. She was so interested in the old fashioned way of making things, like the butter and cheese etc. She also found the story of Charles ll interesting, using a candle to bring stories to life. As it was the Easter holidays, she also did an egg hunt. Finished off with some lunch from the tearoom, delicious sandwiches, and finally a souvenir from the gift shop.
If you like the story of the English civil war and the flight of Charles, then this is the place for you. The guides are very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Cafe is small but lovely. Great grounds for the kids to run around, with the original oak and its descendants. Lovely garden and aspects of how the building has changed over time are interesting. Worth a look. Run by English Heritage
Excellent place to visit on a warm day and picnic in the grounds Lovely tea shop selling nice afternoon cream tea. The house with its interactive "candles" and knowledgeable staff is amazing. Small animal area , park, walks and child's room, plenty to keep anyone amused
