Accidentally find the restaurant…by the water! Of course ; but their food even surprise you more! Amicable servants, decent meal, nice ambiance…fabulous, even for the pre-dinner bread with the starters! The day before was my birthday, this experience made me feel like a celebration once again. Highly recommended, the snail, the lamb chop the Marseille fish soup and the meat-paste too! Especially even the complimentary mashed potatoes which comes with the main dish was good. For the next time I will try the Burgundy beef. Thanks for giving me such a good time.
Oh boy where to start! Called to book and asked for a dinner reservation. I wish i didn't! The person on the phone asked what time and i replied 7PM. She said we can do 6:45PM that was fine. We arrived spot on time but no one to greet us. The waitress that took 10 minutes to show us our table after making a reservation said that they couldn't accommodate the time we asked for. Now I understand why. They take 15 minutes and just leave you hanging. We had a seat and waited for while before someone came to even ask if we would like anything to drink lack of training and/or no hospitality background. We ordered one of the expensive wines they have. The waitress brought the bottle and asked if I would like to test it. I said yes please and I did then she put the bottle down without even turning the glass that was upside down for my wife. Anyway I asked if the oysters were fresh or delivered on the day, she replied i don't know. Again lack of training. For what they charge i could dine in a fine dining restaurant. Anyway off she went and we've been ignored with no answer for a long time and we started to feel seriously unwelcome. She came and she said they were delivered on Friday and I said no thanks as I don't think they will be fresh from source to getting delivered to the restaurant. Plus 2 days siting there,no thanks. Non fresh shellfish are potentially toxic.I asked how about the seabass she said she thinks everything was delivered on Friday how can you call your restaurant Bord de l'eau if nothing is fresh not even the lobster that cost 32 pounds for a half. My wife ordered frog legs and I ordered tagliatelle ratatouille as a starter and I ordered half a lobster and my wife ordered pigeon. The starter for both of us was tasteless not like any French cuisine that I am familiar with. As a half French myself I would say this restaurant has nothing to do with france apart from the name. I haven't eaten the whole meal and the waitress she didn't even bother to ask if everything was okay not a word maybe because we asked if the oysters were fresh. I've noticed that she was polite with everyone else and had the attention for everyone else even asking they table opposite us if the food was okay. When she brought the main courses my wife asked for her name she said no and we asked the older waitress about her colleague's name she said I will go ask her like she doesn't know her. Bad practice she works in a restaurant and any customer can ask for the person that serve them for their name. I didn't accept how we've been treated and I followed both waitresses to the kitchen and I ask to pay for what we had as we didn't touch the main course I offered to pay for the wine and the starters she replied no you have to pay for everything and I told her I would pay for what I consumed she then turned away and answered the phone very rude and I asked again if she would like to get paid but i got ignored again. We left without being able to pay because the waitresses ignored us. We received a brusque message the next day from the owner asking for full payment or she will contact the police. She had no regards for her customers or even jer restaurant. She didn't ask why we were dissatisfied with the food and the service. We did pay for what we had. But the worst thing that happened is my wife had food poisoning from the frog legs and she was vomiting all night and diarrhoea that she still have and can't sleep or eat until now. If you value your life this should be the last place in earth you should visit even then think before you do so I will forever regret it.
Food is okay, we ordered the pheasant and lamb, lamb is much better! A bit overpriced especially the mains, I think nothing below 19£ but okay on the other hand not too much choices around
What a lovely surprise to have a seafood soup and cheese omelette for lunch at Wick! You must stop at Bord de l’eau when you’re passing Wick They open for lunch only until 2pm and then open again for dinner from 6pm.
Friendly staff and fun trying new foods. I tried the frogs legs and the pheasant. My daughter ordered the only kids menu option which was pizza. Sadly the kids pizza was a cheap frozen, overcooked pizza. Maybe Bord De'Leau could at least get the Chicago town microwave pizzas if they want to make a profit still?
Very slick, friendly & speedy service although I was a little disappointed with the quality of food. The fish soup was reasonable just a little lacking and somewhat watery. The main lamb was a little minimalistic - looking back at the review images months back indicates a change in portions and overall quality.Food: 2/5
Simple French place, we waited 25 minutes to order, the menu looks great. The chef makes very clear to not make any adjustment to the plates, no sauce on the side for example or “You will get the bread with the starters” This must be the best restaurant in town, because they act very entitled..... we ordered snails and the entrecôte and I have to say it was pretty good. The sauce was excellent and it comes with the best potatoes. At the end, it was totally worth it! The Chef came out at the end and make sure our food was great!
Excellent French restaurant. Ambience perfect, good choice of food which was delicious. Staff friendly. French chef came out briefly to check the customers' food was to their liking, which was a really lovely touch. Maybe a bit pricey, but for us it is more of a special occasion place. We were on holiday at the time, so we will definitely return when next in the area. Would highly recommend.
Excellent food and very helpful team. Was very impressed and would like recommend. Very fast service, friendly staff. Will try to visit again
