Lovely toasty would highly recommend, very cheesy! My daughter loved her hot dog too. Coffee was decent too. Fairly pricey, but given the location and how busy it is, not surprising a toasty costs eight quid. Currently it's only taking orders outside and you have to sit on beach wall. But the set up is very good overall. No toilets here.
Order outside in the cold, wait outside to pay before sitting inside. Once inside, it's hard to really get any atmosphere or character from the concrete floor, astroturf rug, or patio furniture. The Costco muffins were decent, but don't expect a plate. Quite expensive too considering how little it offers edit: I see the owner responded. I'm not a troll, I'm a local resident, and my review was genuine. Never going back, and I suggest you don't waste your time
If you feel like having an overpriced factory icecream & coffee on a fenced terrace and you love to read and follow multiple instructions before sitting down, than that‘s your place! We were wondering how a nice looking garden café in such a lovely location on a wonderfully sunny day can be so empty… but by the time we found out about it it was already too late. Your card is being charged before they let you inside and sit down and before you have the chance to realise that you pay at least double for food in single use containers. They don’t even bother giving you a spoon with your icecream, not even on request! We came for a visit to Edinburgh from Germany and had no idea about the loads of seriously bad reviews. The setting was so inviting though, and no alternative either, that we probably would have given it a try anyway. Probably that is what keeps the motor running.
It’s great place to grab a coffee and snack. The staff are friendly. The coffee and cake are normal but a bit expensive than others cafe in The city center
This place is literally shambles. Very expensive. Not that great quality/nothing special. Plain staff. Weird weird weird. Just weird functioning. NO indoors seating. Visiting as a group, they only let one person at a time and ONLY after paying in advance. EVERYTHING in takeaway containers not very eco friendly especially if you’re having your stuff just there, they didn’t even let me use my own reusable cup!!! Come on, it’s not 2020 as if we were in the middle of a pandemic again. Even if it’s the only place around probably why they’re still running… do not bother to come here. And do NOT dare to delete my review, because I will put it up again and again if you do so. We’re not trolls, we’re genuine people who just hate terrible service. Don’t go on deleting bad reviews just because you don’t agree with someone, that’s petty and worse too. Hope you do something about this cause this place used to be great.
We are regular visitors and we were really disappointed on today's visit. The coffee was like dishwater and the hot chocolate wasn't much better. The cafe, which used to have a superb ambience and atmosphere is now soulless, such a shame it has been so drastically changed. It was like Fort Knox trying to get in to get a seat, with many people just giving up while waiting. Not very welcoming at all, especially when they take your order and you pay for it before you were allowed past the chained off area to get to a seat inside. Very impersonal. I really do hope the owners read this review and reflect on changes that have been made. Oh and the prices, ouch! ***29/01/23 Review Addition*** I received a reply to my review from Boardwalk Beach Club on 29/01/23 and I can assure you that my review is a genuine review. I have never seen a business so dismissive of the feedback they receive from their customers! Shameful behaviour from a business!
Sadly I was disappointed. The place used to be very nice, but I suppose they have not gotten back to the pre-covid system. I paid £12 for a tea and toast with cheese and a single slice of ham, no napkins, no cutlery, floor and furniture covered in crumbs, no heating.. it was quite sad. It's probably fine for a tea and a piece of cake, but I wouldn't come back for a meal EDIT AFTER RESPONSE: I was expecting your copy-paste response, seeing what you did with all the other similar reviews. You really need to stop dismissing genuine customer reviews that simply point out consistent issues, and start work more on how you can make improvements, and maybe then you'll stop seeing the negative reviews. What a shame. Also, what kind of troll would give you 2 stars and say that maybe it's a good enough place for a cake and tea? I'll take my 2 stars back, thank you very much
This has to be the most overpriced cafe in Edinburgh. Me and my Girlfriend came in to have something to eat and were charged £35 for two "airline" quality toasties, two Costco Muffins and two coffees. More than happy to support local businesses but me and my girlfriend left feeling extremely ripped off.
Ordered 3 hot chocolates for over £12! These had to be paid for before being allowed to enter the outdoor seating area and when we were finally allowed to sit down we were given 3 different hot chocolates in takeaway cups which weren't very hot. One was a kids one with cream etc, one was big and one was small which certainly didn't justify the hefty price tag. Felt like I'd been ripped off and doubt ill be back. Shame really. It's a nice spot and could be great. Next time I'll take a flask with me or go somewhere else nearby.
Bought a coffee to take away and asked if I could use the toilet the outdoor seating area was cordoned off to the public. I am 40 weeks pregnant and was told that in order to use the toilet I have to be a “sit in” customer outside, as the indoors isn’t open. So we sat down and were told we had to stay there for at least five minutes before leaving which was a laugh. We obviously left straight after using the toilet, but felt the staff could’ve used their discretion a bit and waived the bizarre logic for an extremely pregnant woman who is also a paying customer! Also ordered a cappuccino which when arrived was extremely milky and more like a latte.
