First time here, plenty of ales to try, I had the Golden ale, under 4% and very drinkable I didn't eat but everyone else's look and smelt lovely. Inside is very classy and the outside seating area is great, very bohemian. Definitely be back next time I'm in town.
A proper historic pub. A wide selection of well kept beers and wines. A lovely ambience and truly hospitable staff. We had lamb Sunday roast - five veg, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and gravy. Delicious. Thoroughly recommended. Kid-friendliness: Our daughter enjoyed her chicken and chips. Parking: A roomy car park Wheelchair accessibility: The historic nature of the building makes wheel chair access more than a little challenging.
Delicious dinner! More than just your average pub fare. The Mexican chicken burger was spicy and delicious! If you’re choosing between here and the Bear go to John O’Gaunt.
A great pub situated just as you are heading into Hungerford town centre. They have their own brews INNformal, as well as a good variation of ciders and keg craft ales. The staff were accomodating and friendly. The best pub in Hungerford .
Fantastic little place with loads of character, great beer & ale choices & super friendly staff. Enjoyed a quick lunch in the spacious garden, recommend the goats cheese flatbread see photo!
The staff at the John O'Gaunt made us feel very welcome on our arrival. It has a very friendly atmosphere.. We had the tapas recently and the meal was exceptional. Definitely recommend you try the food. You won't be disappointed. Looking forward to visiting again.Food: 5/5
Lovely place with great food! Highly recommended!
Salty and stale My 82 yr mother treated us to lunch. We were all served chips crystalised with salt. Our meals were OK otherwise, bar a scotch egg with runny white. Her haddock was thin, stale and cooked in fat so hot that the outside was crisp and the batter inside was slimy. The owner would not accept any issues with the meal and stared at her aggressively. Fish and chip shops always ask before showering salt everywhere. All in all, a poor chef and a rude owner,
Had been frequenting this pub semi-regularly for a while but have decided to vote with my wallet and not return. The manager Maybe owner? has a very strange energy and seems to have difficulty accepting criticism about the quality of beer bad lines, in my experience! and food. He regularly demeans staff while he sits on the other side of the bar. I've always felt that exerting power over working staff, while you are not working, is a fast way for them to lose any feelings of autonomy or responsibility. The food is fine, but not worth the price you pay for it. I think it is the least desirable pub in Hungerford, of which there are many. Redeeming factor is Leffe and La Chouffe on tap, but even that tastes a bit off half the time! There's a big difference between meeting regulatory standards, and knowing how to look after beer!
Beautiful pub in the centre of Hungerford but the garden makes you feel like you're in the middle of the countryside. Fabulous friendly service and delicious decently priced food. Great selection of gin. Would recommend the ribs!! We'll be back. Thanks for the van assistance
