This is a nice little bouldering wall, but would be improved by a few additions.nUpsides: good value, and has problems across a wide range of grades. The physical walls, volumes, and selection of holds are good. The setting was ok, but would benefit from being properly tested by shorter setters because quite a few of the problems were reachy and this impacted all of the women climbing while we were there. We found there were *just* enough problems in the middle grades to keep us occupied for a two hour session.nDownsides: badly in need of changing rooms and proper lockers. As it stands there is nowhere to get changed and everyone seems to leave their belongings unsecured. The only lockers are tiny and hidden in an unlit corridor. Parking is complicated, because there is free street parking except when there are matches at the Dundee FC stadium -- at which point you need to find scarce parking much further away. Their color grading scheme seems exceptionally inconsistent, but if you give up on the idea that oranges should be easier than reds for example then it is fine. In my view it would be better for them to replace the comp wall with regular problems, because currently it takes up about 20% of the wall space and offers less than 5% of the problems.
Absolutely great bouldering gym! The staff are very friendly and happy to have a chat and help you out on the routes. The routes themselves are very well set with lots of different styles of climbing at different levels, both beginner friendly and still good for competent climbers, and they are changed frequently so you always have a new project! And all for a fair price considering the cost of gyms these days and all the extra gym equipment and resources available! :
I organised a stag day event at Block10 Bouldering in Dundee. There were 9 of us ranging in age from 14 to mid 60's. Most of us were fairly fit but we have never attempted bouldering before so thought it would be a laugh. We were welcomed at the door and 2 of the staff, Eve and Heather, gave us our introduction and showed us how the routes worked. Everyone had a wonderful morning attempting the various routes in ever increasing difficulty. Eve and Heather were exceptional in supporting us and cheering us on. Those two made our event an even better experience. Some of us have even decided to take up bouldering regularly. Thank you Block10 for starting our day out in style.
A fantastic environment for bouldering. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. I can’t speak highly enough about the NICAS sessions and the instructors, particularly Cullen and Selina who coach with expertise but also patience and compassion. I would recommend the NICAS sessions to all parents and children who are looking to be active in a safe and supportive environment.
What a bangin wall!nOld school vibes but not pretentious, good coffee, cheerful friendly staff, really good setting.nIf your in Dundee or passing through its definitely worth checking out.
