Was expecting great service and immense food after the amazing reviews. Very wrong.nnFood not worth the hype at all. 'Famous' welsh pie 90% potatoes 10% meat. Mackerel Special... wouldn't call it special very bland.nnStaff miserable. No care in the world, I understand it's busy with it being bank holiday however a smile wouldn't hurt!!nnHaving to ask for cutlery even though waitress knew we had ordered food. To then have our starter plates sitting there until mains come. Yes it's little things however the pub being so highly rated you'd expect them!nnWalking round trying to find a table just doesn't work when it's so busy!nnBest thing about it was the Wrexham Beer and the little playground for the kids!
A large, and traditional pub, with lodgings, should you want to stay over. A great selection of beer and ales.nnWe went for dinner. The food was absolutely brilliant, served quickly too! Sometimes you can wait upwards of 40 minutes due to its popularity. Theres a lot to choose from, with specials too. I highly recommend the Mixed Grill.nnHighly recommended all round!
The pub has amazing internal design. Lots of history and just nice to be inside. Makes you feel comfortable and cozy.nWe ordered the food and drinks from the bar code link on the table. It was quick.nUnfortunately we did not enjoy our cod with chips. It was either lacking spices or was just not fit our expectations. I also had two beers and one of them clearly tasted with soap inside.
Based on dining experience only. We arrived at the pub and waited for someone to acknowledge us but the bar staff were busy talking. We waited and found our own seat, which is fine, but then had to tackle the QR code situation. We then found the menus by the bar and ordered, again after waiting for bar staff to appear. The food was very poor quality, especially the burger meat, which was full of gristle. The fish was dry. For the price of £19 for a burger, you really would expect higher quality. Such a shame as the building has great potential.
Food was delicious, I had the vegan coleslaw and jacket potato with beans. Very big portion but had no idea if the crisps were gluten free or not.nMore choices for vegans and gluten free would be helpful.nCallus was amazing, tried his best to accommodate and very smiley chap.
