Really bad. ‘Bad food on the beach’… A really dated, overpriced arrangement. You’d be better off looking inland, or checking Google for a better place nearby… It’s on the beach, so has a captive audience, but a harsh review is in order as it’s not acceptable to serve food as bad as this. Firstly you pay first, which is usually a warning sign. When asked directly ‘what is fresh on the menu?’, got a look downwards, and no answer. On to the food… Crab seemed to be tinned, it was tasteless and really mushy. Fish is frozen, it smelt disgusting good job we were sitting in the sun with a strong wind!. The tartare sauce was gloopy and acidic. The mushy peas tasted ‘off’, and smelt a bit like PVA glue!. Sadly the chips were soggy, processed and over-cooked. Tasted like they had been cooked the day before then reheated. The salad was just ‘OK’, but it’s salad!. The juices tasted bland, like they were out of a chilled box. Coffee was as bad as it gets for a ‘proper’ coffee. Why such a blunt review? Well, as said, they have a captive audience. And being on the beach, people are often out of their comfort zone, so may feel like it’s ‘OK’, but it’s not OK. It was bad, and to add insult to injury the bill for two mains, two small juices and a black coffee was £38. For such low quality food, that is ‘daylight robbery’. They really need to improve - they need to take a serious look at the menu, get rid of the frozen junk and stop ripping-off the locals and visitors.
Stunned to see such shockingly critical reviews of this place. Beautiful location, seated straight away, welcomed our dog too. Was blown away by the food. Totally not what we expected at all. Ordered the prawn cocktail, expecting some small portion in a tiny plastic cup, received the complete opposite! Laid beautifully on a plate, warm thin toast, delicious prawns and smoked salmon. My lamb burger was phenomenal. My partner wasn’t a fan of the crab, but we both agree crab is an acquired taste and we haven’t had enough of it to make a judgement of it yet. The chocolate torte was so tasty it was amazing. And the fresh lemonade was soooo flavourful. Shame we’re on holiday here only for a few days. Otherwise would’ve totally returned
This place was such an unexpected surprise. Plenty of seating outside and inside with fabulous views. The portions are absolutely massive. I’d certainly recommend to split one main between two people, reasonable prices. The staff is very kind. The food is fresh and great quality and tasty. I’d recommend this restaurant for certain.
Brunch was lovely, the staff and manager were helpful and friendly. Unfortunately there was a mix up with the order and we were given a normal full English when we thought we asked for vegetarian. The manager was absolutely fine about it and reordered the vegetarian one for us. The food was good, the location lovely. We would def go back. And dog friendly too! Inside and out.
Bistro on the Beach is always on the our list of favourites. Good food, great location with sea view. Great reward after a walk from Hengisbury Head. Today Kristina recommended their special. And OMG! What a wow effect! Thank you!
handy place for refreshments when your walking the prom or playing on the sands with your kids. Full facilities. Takeaway or sit in options.
Pretty decent cafe, the fish was really good and portion size is generous. The chicken strips I believe they are frozen but it still tasted decent. The location is great right by the seafront, staff are super friendly. Prices are what you expect to pay at the seafront. They have outside tables as well as inside seatings. If you sit outside and wanting food, you got to go in and order food and drinks. If you sit and dine inside then it is table service.
My wife and I really felt like fish and chips on the beach and the Bistro on the Beach exceeded our expectations in every way. Excellent service, big, perfectly cooked and crispy fish, chunky and crispy fries, cracked salt, tartare and mushy peas. Excellent coffee and a stunning location.
Stopped her after doing a quick search for somewhere to eat on Google maps. Lovely restaurant. Staff were lovely and service was very efficient. Great views of Southbourne beach. There is paring which is pay and display. Will definitely return again
Lovely and friendly service. Very good food. Highly recommended
