These gardens are a national treasure and like many Brummies, they hold a special place in my heart. Though the buildings are looking tired, the glasshouses contain an outstanding and well kept collection of rare plants from around the world. Outside, improvements are clearly being made. The grass garden is by far the best feature with great drifts of naturalistic planting backed by groups of bold giant grasses. The peaceful fern garden is a secret little retreat. The alpine garden is a newish feature with outcrops laid out geographically. There are many important trees around the site and for families, probably the largest play area in any garden. The historic bandstand has live bands every Sunday throughout the warmer months. There is a large tearoom and occasional street food vendors. The gardens are heading towards a huge restoration project following years of no investment so be supportive and respectful. For those complaining about the parking system- there are lots of signs explaining what to do, read them carefully and you won't have a problem.
It was lovely, a couple of places were obviously being worked on but it was a great experience. Cafe served nice coffee, trees were changing, shop was good. All round perfect!Visited onWeekendWait timeUp to 10 minReservation recommendedNot sure
Spent my 21st birthday here and could not complain, was a wonderful little peruse of all type of botany and sights. Even checked out the butterfly garden and was pleasantly surprised. I think everyone needs to go to the botanical gardens at least once in their life. Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
Gorgeous gardens, an escape in to nature. Extensive gardens, much bigger than expected, with different areas for things like tropical, arid or Mediterranean plants. Lots of interesting plants that you don’t have the opportunity to see every day like bonsai trees, banana plants and huge lily pads. The butterfly room is particularly amazing with the opportunity to get up close with the butterflies and the pupae. The cafe had some good food on offer, lots of veggie, vegan, plant based options including vegan cheese & tomato baguettes, vegan jacket spuds, quorn nuggets etc. Although there was an issue with the fryer, there was still something to eat. Parking is limited, however as people leave at various times, it wasn’t too hard to get a space. It costs £3 for the full day which isn’t bad at all. The staff were accommodating a friendly, especially on reception. I had a friend arriving later than me on the same ticket, the staff helped putting her through later without causing a fuss. The gift shop has a good range, was reasonably priced, got some wax melts for about £1 each and a 10p tea light. Can’t argue with that. Some things are a little on the pricey side but looks like good quality, unique, local & independently made products. Not just lots of mass produced rubbish that you get in some places. The only negative was the amount of school trips with loud screaming children. It’s no fault of the park obviously and it’s great to see kids learning about nature but it does ruin the peaceful atmosphere. It would be good to see more teachers and parents guiding children to be quiet and respectful of nature & other visitors when in the wider park, and using the playground to let loose there’s a great one in the park Travelled down from Manchester to visit and was not disappointed.
A beautiful and relaxing space in the midst of busy Birmingham, with a variety of native and exotic plantings. The water lillies are spectacular, and the wide open spaces and structures complement and enhance the landscape. The gift shop is a gardener's delight!
It is a little oasis Based so close to the city, yet so peaceful. You could hear the birds chirping and smell the trees and the flowers. Make sure you have plenty of time to explore as they have a wide variety of plants. It is catered for all seasons so depending on when you visit you are likely to experience different seasons through the year. They also have a small Bonsai collection in their Japanese garden that’s worth checking out if you are visiting.
The botanical gardens are so beautiful! There is car parking on site and a cafe to get a warm drink in winter. The gardens are well maintained and keeps changing every visit. I never get board visiting over and over. There’s a beautiful aviary and butterfly house and koi fish in the gardens. There is a field to have a nice picnic on a sunny day. Even on rainy days there are greenhouses that can be enjoyed indoors. There are bathrooms onsite and lots of families visit. If you are lucky you may spot a cat that comes to visit the gardens occasionally.
A lovely day out for all the family. I spent around 45 minutes here exploring the amazing variety of botanicals. What a brilliant display of interesting and unusual plants, very well kept and easy to navigate. The indoor plants were surreal, it's feels like you are actually in a rainforest due to the humidity. I really enjoyed the butterfly house, despite no butterflies there, it was a pretty sight. Plenty of open space for picnics and for children to roam freely. I definitely recommend you visit the Botanical Gardens for a family day out.
The best bet is to get here at 10am that way, you should get a parking space and be able to enjoy the small butterfly farm. We enjoyed the dinosaur show around 11.30, and were told there was another one at noon. There's a cafè/tearoom with outdoor seating on site. A lot of people brought their own picnic. Decent gift shop on exit. Events throughout the year. There weren't many hand sanitisers on our visit.
I recommend membership for those with children and especially if you live locally. Great for picnic, live music during summer playground for babies and older children and all that surrounded by tons of flowers and trees, plus butterfly house. We love it here. I’m afraid I haven’t taken many pictures recently but here is just a few.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
