Really interesting hidden gem. My son really likes libraries and after seeing the pics I thought the building looked interesting so worth a trip. His review is 'Really good lots of books'. While he looked over the books I had a look around the building, they have some really interesting info on Wilfred Owen and bits and bobs to look at. Worth a visit if you've never been though unless you have a little reader like me who curled up with a book for an hour you won't need loads of time.
This is my local library. An absolute lifesaver as I read a lot and books are not cheap! It is also a community space. Will often find singers on Saturday afternoons, various events and children's activities. Staff are friendly and helpful. Very grateful to still have this library. Hope it stays where it is for it's community.
A historic backwater which I remember when studying Architecture. It had a very important impact on the person I became and in those days a wealth of information - be it science and materials or youngs modulus and exam revision time was such a treasured time and I think if my memory serves me correct where the lyrics to whole of the moon were given birth in part and then completed in Cunard buildings in the water department at my drawing board on the third floor - great days indeed.
It's the most important + significant building on the Wirral. It's been threatened unsuccessfully by the Council for years. It's staff are always helpful. It's the one place where everyone has access to a photocopier and a personal computer. It's vital that it stays open. It's spacious with local newspapers dating back for many years for research purposes. It's a part of the local community which can't be replaced.
In spite of Wirral Council wanting to close our library it is still there, providing a great service and safe space.
Brilliant stock, brilliant staff. I love this place. Nothing is too much for the staff when you need help and there are always new books and audio books coming in. Well done Birkenhead library and many thanks.
The library has a brilliant selection however it is lacking any up to date non-fiction and technical publications such as modern programming, which I would consider critical with the direction the current curriculum and indeed the world is headed. However, the library does have a decent selection of kids books & DVDs, along with an adequate IT suite.
The first public library in the world and still serving the community. Full of history and resources that you can't find on t'intertnet. Check it out for yourself.
My husband and I went on the tour by Sheena yesterday and we thoroughly enjoyed it - unfortunately we had a prior appointment and had to leave just before the end and did not have chance to thank her. So a big THANK YOU - we thought you were very knowledgeable and opened our eyes to lots of current uses for libraries - we are not currently members but will rectify that at the earliest opportunity - thank you so much - Lynn and Phil Williams
Great looking however lacks up to date non-fictional books, this area needs better educational books to support students education. This is a vital resource in an already impoverished area, the council should really do more to preserve this iconic building and fund it more, instead if running it into the ground with a view to sell our public assets to developers,
