Hands-down one of my favorite places in London. The range of fish and seafood is truly unmatched, I never would’ve thought it’s even possible to find so much in a major city with no direct access to the sea. The opening times are from four until eight, as stated, but I highly recommend you get here no later than six, as by 6:30 half the vendors are already closed. 5:00-5:30 is probably the best time, especially on Thursdays and Saturdays, when they have fresh deliveries. If you’re worried about the vendors being too loud or too pushy — don’t be. They’re all absolute sweethearts and are so respectful of every customer. The prices are multiple times cheaper than any supermarket I’ve been to, not to mention the quality. Salmon fillet is roughly £15/kg, tiger prawns £30/kg, crabs anywhere between £8/kg to £25/kg those ones are bigger than a child. Getting up at 4am sure sounds challenging, but it’s worth it ten times over.
The best fresh fish market in London! Best price, best quality, great variety of fish! Open from 0400 - 0800 Recommended to come before 0500am for better quality. Check the pictures for more details.
First time visit People are kind to retail buyer Assortment of the seafood are good enough for us. Car park charge is £3.50 for two hours. Pretty enough time to shop around, not really cloud as expected. Will come back for sure.
I went here on a Saturday around 6am which is quite late - some shops were closing but still had a chance to find some good fish with a good price. Go earlier on a weekday if you want the best ones - they sell out very quickly Don’t get off on Poplar station Elizabeth line get off at Canary Wharf please it might seem as there aren’t much a difference geographically but it’s so inconvenient from Poplar since you need to walk around extra 15min to get there I would recommend to bring a bag for the fish since some shops give you transparent bags and you wouldn’t want to carry a orange salmon around in central London
Huge assortment of seafood, great prices, and always fresh. Last time we went got an amazing lobster. It was very tasty, but very angry.
Fresh wholesale fish market since 1698. Price as of 2024: Snapper -10£, Trout-15£, Sea Bass 10£, Salmon 15£. There's a nice cafe within the market selling fresh fish breakfast.
A totally unique London experience. Billingsgate market has been here since 1982 and not much has changed since then. It's a lovely time warp with wholesale fish sellers with masses of freshly landed fish for sale. It doesn't get much fresher than this. Also astoundingly cheap: a massive whole salmon, half a kilo of samphire and 8 scallops for less than £40. Beware that most of the fish here will require gutting etc. although some stalls will have done it for you already. Wear warm clothes, wellies recommended and don't wear anything you mind getting a tiny bit fishy. Enjoy this while you can, the whole market is moving to Dagenham in 2027.
Come here early on, plan to reach here before 5, amazing selection of fish to choose from. They mostly only take cash so come prepared with it. We took salmon, some cod and a kilo of prawns. Very fresh and they tasted amazing
Perfect place for the morning! Lucky we came in summer time with sun rise at 4am. The market started from 5am till 7am. This is located next to Hsbc and Canary Wharf. Car parking is already full when we got here at 520. Has to queue for the parking. Very fresh different types of fishes, oysters, sharks, lobsters, mussels. Remember to check prices at different shops, it can be very vary! All shops closing at 7am and we also also leaving. Worth to come.
Come around 6AM, as by 6:30 soem stalls will be wrapping up already. Despite what Internet says, at least some of the stalls accept credit cards now. Be prepared that all fish come with heads, and although salmon was cleaned, I had to clean the parrot fish myself. But then, that's the first time I've see parrot fish sold in London.
