Bevis Marks Synagogue is the oldest functioning Synagogue in England, recently has been restored to its maximum splendor. It's history goes back to the Spanish Inquisition and that is not a Monty python's joke!! Please visit if you are in London! I personally love that place with so much history in its walls!
The oldest synagogue in use in the UK, a pearl of the Conversos expelled from Spain and Portugal, as well as the Esnoga in Amsterdam Holland, Shaare Shalom Synagogue Kingston, Jamaica, Hebrew Congregation of St. Thomas St. Thomas US VI, Synagogue Mikvé Israel-Emanuel Curaçao and Zedek ve Shalom in Suriname. The first four of them still in use.
Stunning synagogue with rich history dating all the way back to 1701, and remarkably survived the London blitz during ww2. Lovely services and community.

Superb synagogue - the oldest in London. A lot of history, tradition and struggle of acceptance in the British society. I didn't go in a tour but the book/guide was exceptional. Friendly and supportive staff. I strongly recommend
Currently under renovation for restoration, Bevis Marks synagogue is the oldest synagogue in the UK and a cultural landmark. Visitors are always welcomed. Worth a visit for anybody interested in Sephardi Jewish religious life or London history.

Cynically surrounded by modern buildings as if to say: "You see we preserved it and didn't knock it down." Impossible to find because it's just hidden in an artificial courtyard cowering amongst offices... I was also surprised to find that it cost money to get in. Not if you come to pray- they added.
Situated in the heart of the London yet very peaceful place. There was some funny talk with security guy but at the end he was very nice. I like the place to see the history and modern era at one place.
