Visited the spa last night with a friend for her birthday. What a beautiful location , we arrived early & enjoyed a stroll around the castle grounds . The Spa was amazing, loved the decor & the staff couldn't have been nicer , they made us feel so welcome. We enjoyed the sauna & steam room then we had booked in for the hot mud room. It was so much fun applying the mud & the steam was so relaxing then we finished off with a hour in the woodland hot tub with a glass of fizz. The moon was out & the fairy lights looked magical. Feel like a new woman today. Had to leave a review as we will definitely be back!
Ruthin Castle is a beautiful place in a lovely setting. The staff where very pleasant and helpful, We ate there as there where 19 of us. A good meal to a good standard was the general consensus. Also a pleasant surprise that the drinks where not extortionate like you find in other establishments. The rooms where unfortunately scruffy and dated. But with that they where clean to decent standard. Overall a pleasant experience and nothing a deep clean and a lick of paint wouldn’t fix. Thanks to the staff for looking after us.
It might not be for everyone, but it's my liking—a fantastic place, with a beautiful garden. Rooms are fine. Big, clean. If you fancy walking/hike...lots around. Staff was incredibly nice. I only had lunch at the hotel; it was lovely. There are a couple of excellent pubs in the town if you fancy a change of scenery
This was a spa gift with a afternoon tea. The soap was excellent, friendly atmosphere with lovely staff. But I dud not rate the restaurant or the staff. We had to wait a while before the staff noted we wanted to enter. Whilst the food was great, I was only offered one small cup of coffee, to go with the finger sandwiches, scone and cakes. I feel that the Waitress should have come and asked if we were OK, and asked if we wanted anything else. Where I would have requested another drink, as I feel the afternoon tea could have done with another drink. I felt very ill at ease in the restaurant. I would return again for the spa, but avoid the restaurant.
Had a brilliant and memorable time staying at the castle for a weekend. Despite the grandeur of the castle, the feel is very unpretentious. We were advised by the staff to explore, which was made better by the fact you don't feel like you're being watched at all times by staff. It was incredible being able to wander around somewhere with such depth of history. The bar man gave us a leaflet to learn more about the castle and really made us appreciate how special it was that we were staying there. Having dinner on site and the spa booked made for a relaxing time, and gave just enough time to explore the surrounding village which has some unique features to discover. Perhaps the best hotel experience we've ever had.
First impression of the castle was very impressive, and didn't get any less so as we entered reception!!! We had a room in the original part of the castle, and whilst some reviews state conditions/decor are tired and in need of repair, I do not agree. Room was flawless. En suite was immaculate. Bed was very comfortable too. There is ongoing work at the hotel, but one needs to remember that parts of the building are over 800 years old. The spa was so good too. Only disappointment was there is no pool. The hottub hit for me, but as my wife described it as cool tub, it highlights how personal preferences influence reviews......was just the job after a day walking in the mountains too. Staff were very friendly, food was excellent. Breakfast draws the only criticism here, it is a buffet style set up, but the serving area is just too cramped. From a personal perspective, the breakfast was perfect, all the usual full English suspects, so I was happy, however, alternatives were a tad lacking. All in all an amazing couple of days in some fantastic countryside with the castle proving to be the perfect venue for our overnight stay. Thank you to the whole team at the hotel.
Enjoyed a delightful spa day with my partner last month. The decor is unique and provides a relaxing atmosphere. The staff are very attentive and the package I chose was great value for money. You can enjoy drinks in the Woodland Hot Tubs before a couples massage in a joint room. There is also a hammam mud experience in a private area which was a great laugh and left our skin silky smooth. Finally afternoon tea is served within the Hotel restaurant, where you can also take in the sights of the castle grounds
I took a friend for a dining experience in Bertie's restaurant and from start to finish it was absolutely fantastic. Ceri on reception was amazing she greeted us with a warm friendly smile and directed us through the castle to Bertie's. Paul looked after us in the restaurant and was very informative about the dishes and was very attentive. Bertie's restaurant has a lovely ambience. The food was 6* every single dish was delightful, tasty and full of flavour a special thank you to Mikey. We will definitely be returning to enjoy what the castle has to offer. Don't be put off by some of the reviews, this is a must visit for anyone looking for a dining experience full of superb customer service and the best food I have ever tasted. Well done to the team at Ruthin Castle I look forward to seeing you all again.
I was looking forward to a couple of days here and the building is impressive. Reception area is very fitting too as are the rooms around the site. The old ruins are worth a look and it has a great history. Unfortunately the room we initially had a family room was quite shabby and the heating didn't work so we were upgraded to a suite. This was better except the towel rail didn't heat up, there was a leak by the toilet and the plumbing made strange noisrs at all hours. We did have a spa visit which was good. Food was average but the evening waiter understood dietary requirements and double checked everything. I didn't know about the 'Scores on the doors' being a 0 for food hygiene or I wouldn't have booked. Lots of potential but falls short of the price.
We came on a day trip to use the spa with a package including food. The first thing we see is a food hygiene rating of 0! We opted not to have the food, not wanting to start the new year with a stomach bug, so just stayed in the spa and will be chasing a partial refund for the meal. Have to say, the spa and the staff within were great, and very attentive, no issues that side. It's just a bit surprising how such a high class venue with great spa can let there restaurant standard slip to a zero! Great shame!
