I am 92 years old and came to Bernhard Baron Care Home BBCH three and a half years ago. It was the best decision I have made in my later years!nI think the Cottages are unique in providing a semi independent way of living but with the knowledge that kind and efficient help and care is on hand immediately, from small personal matters even with IT problems!, to major health matters. The main building provides further care for the more infirm and will always be available for me if or when I need it.nWe have a full programme of activities and outings for those who wish to join in, and I take advantage of a lot of them, but the choice is yours.nThe food is excellent and varied.nMany of the staff stay for many years , which I think speaks well of their job satisfaction, in a family atmosphere. Above all the staff, carers and managers treat everyone with kindness and dignity at all times.
BBCH is not just a care home. It is a unique place in which the mix of accommodation, of mobile and not so mobile residents, cheerful competent staff and informed care and treatment produces an inclusive, supportive community with maintainimg the respect and dignity of residents at its heart. Above all it is a kind place set in lovely gardens and birdsong.
A really lovely beautiful home, where people are cared for with compassion and skill xxx Great team to work with, everyone is so supportive and committed to both residents and coallegues. The staff treats residents with great respect and always has time helping and spending time with them xxx
A dear friend of my family lived here. I am posting this in her memory. As Christmas comes around again, I remember her with deep affection. She had no blood next of kin, but my mother and I met her on holiday in 1995 and we all had a wonderful time together and we then very regularly wrote to her and telephoned her at least weekly, ever since 1995 the year we’d all met on that holiday. Sadly, my mother died in December, 2014. Our friend, a resident here, was deeply saddened by this and was very supportive to me in my grief. I clearly understood through my direct communication with her, that in that the next year 2015 my friend was ailing and that her memory was gradually but steadily failing. I therefore, contacted the office staff to give my name, address and details and asked to be kept informed as she declined from Alzheimer’s disease from which she died in 2016. However, they did not EVER contact me nor ever tell me anything about my friend and in the end, when she wasn’t answering her phone after many attempts to get through to her, I contacted the Office again and they said my friend had been in hospital and was sadly, not assessed as being fit enough to return back to the Bernhard Baron Cottage Homes. Instead, she was transferred to another home for severe cases where I was told she only stayed a short while and then very sadly she died. So, after all of those years of knowing her and having had regular communication, because we were not her blood family she had no-one surviving, we were therefore, not officially her legal next of kin. As a result of this, despite caring about her, we were not kept informed as to her sudden decline nor even her transfer to another institution and then her death, and yet, my family and I had been her very good friends for 21 years. Sadly, whenever I made contact with the Bernhard Baron Cottage Homes I felt I was treated with suspicion by their administration, simply because I wasn’t her blood kin, she really had none left at all. In the end, this has caused me to feel an acute sense of loss and deep sadness that I was prevented through their complete lack of communication with me, to be there at the end of my dear friend’s life or indeed, to be able to attend her funeral and to say some words in tribute to her life. Indeed, I only knew she’d died, when I rang to check on her progress. I am utterly appalled by this. I should add, that I am severely disabled and wheelchair bound myself and I live 200 miles away, I repeated explained this to the Administrators and I told them that I relied upon their keeping me informed, but they didn’t, and so I feel that I let my friend down as a result of their lack of empathy. As a result of this, my family’s experience, I would NOT recommend Bernhard Baron Cottage Homes and I sincerely hope that my dear family friend may now R.I.P. because I am really hurting because of all of this.
I know I am biased but I have yet to find a better care home for the residents our a better one in terms of employer. Come visit and we will be proud to show you around.
