Lovely pub and great interior. Interesting place. 6 hungry golfers were looked after 5 minutes before the kitchen closed. Staff were great and the food delicious. If you have a passion for good food - this is a good place. Compliments to all that work there. Top notch food - absolutely delicious. A convenient place to go to after a game of golf at the nearby Langdon Hills golf club.
Went for Sunday lunch and was really disappointed. They stated that a lot of the dishes were gluten free but in fact they never offered a gluten free alternative. So I had roast pork without the sage and onion stuffing, the Yorkshire pudding or the gravy. It’s easy to replace these items for a gluten free one but they didn’t even though I had called them to let them know of my dietary requirements. The meal was very expensive for 2 slices of pork, some roast potatoes and a bit of veg! Won’t be going again.
Usually I can’t fault The Bell, but on Sunday it was awful. I stood at the bar for 10 minutes without any service, eventually we were shown to our table after I cornered a member of staff. At the table we waited 30 minutes before we again had to ask someone to take our order. The two slices of pork were so thin I thought it was bacon. It was dry, tasteless and nearly cold. The potatoes were over cooked, the Yorkshire as dry as a bone. We had to ask for more gravy to make it in any way edible. The beef was a little better but not by much. The starters were quite nice. Very dissatisfied and disappointed as it was my daughter’s birthday and I rarely get the opportunity to spend her birthday with her. I won’t be going back again.
Lovely stay in the snug room, nicely decorated and little home made Christmas biscuits were a lovely touch. Staff were friendly and parking was easily accessible. Overall a great little place to stay and would definitely recommend.Rooms: 5/5
Went with friends for dinner, the menu is small but you will find something that you like . There is a good atmosphere about this place and it shows in the happy staff . The food was very tasty, the drinks were cold , the staff were polite and friendly, what more could you ask for .
Booked on the phone. Asked if they did gf and vegitarian options. I was told Bell had numerous GF options an vegitarian options. Upon looking at the menu there were many GF options but only one Vegitarian dish. Be warned if you are vegitarian. For the price I was extremely disapointed. The waiting staff had no personality and displayed no idea of customer service.
My wife attended a works Christmas do here on Thursday 15th December and had a good time. The issue I have is with the dessert that was served. My wife has a nut alergy and the chef made a crushed nut glaze on top of the Creme Brulee. But Did NOT tell my wife. She had a very bad reaction she had sickness, she was covered from head to foot in a very itchy rash but more worryingly she began to have difficulty breathing. I gave her Piriton which eased the condition. I am happy to say that she is now fine. I contacted the Restaurant on Friday 16th December and asked to speak to a manager. I explained I was not seeking any form of compensation but wanted to make sure that this did not happen again. I was told that no manager was available as they were "In Service" and was assured I'd get a call back as soon as they had finished their meeting. Guess what No call back. The young lady I spoke to did not offer an apology for my wife, did not ask how she was now but just tried to say it was my wife's fault for not informing them she had a nut allergy. She had soup to start, no nuts followed by Roast pork dinner, no nuts. Who puts ground nuts on a Creme Brulee as a glaze and then Does NOT ask if anyone has a nut allergy.... Be careful people. I am genuinely not seeking any form of compensation but what poor consideration for their guests!!! A more sympathetic approach towards my wife would have been a start and a call from a manager as promised might have helped. Is that to much to ask?? I think it's very poor
one of the most pleasant clean hotels I have stayed in and the have been many over 45 years lovely old atmosphere in a nice location and the icing on the cake was if you are into old British motorbikes the home of the The motor bike legend Philip Vincent designer of my favourite motorbike The Vincent black shadow 1000cc there was no competition
Great traditional pub. The selection and quality of food and drink on offer has been excellent every time I've visited. Parking: Parking can sometimes be tricky if they're busy as the car park gets full and there's limited parking in the street.
Booked for Sunday lunch and loved it. Wasn't overly busy when we arrived staff were very attentive and food was delicious. Have been here before and was not disappointed on my return.
