Atmospheric little smugglers cave-type cafe. Very good Cullen Skink, full of fish pieces, though a little bit thin for our liking. The chicken, mozzarella and green pesto panini was very good with side salad & quality crisps. The skink was good value, but the panini overpriced.
Friendly staff and good food. All within a minute's walk of some outstanding scenery
Nice old place in a great setting on the harbour, spacious and lots of character. A bit scruffy and much of the art for sale comes across to me as very amateur but it's a good idea of theirs to put it up there. Food and coffee was good too. Good for kids but... No baby changing facilities though - just a cold toilet floor and your own changing mat.
A must is the Cullen Skink with oatcakes and the sticky toffee pudding with Portsoy ice cream.
Cosy seating spaces, nice maritime atmosphere, amazing home made soups, gifts and nice, friendly staff.
This was the best place to eat accompanied by your dog. The Cullen Skink was the best I have ever eaten. However it is now shut and for sale. They may take our food but they'll never take our memories.
Plenty of character and lots of nooks and crannies filled with local art available to buy. It's dog friendly as well so we always pop in here for a wee coffee and a bun. The menu is limited and typical small cafe type food but then it's a wee cafe. It also has the extra honour of being right on Portsoy Harbour where they remade the movie Whisky Galore.
Beggar's Belief is a fabulous, quirky little place serving scrummy food from 11 till 4 last food orders 3.30 . Warm & inviting, run by locals, using as much local food as possible. A high grade of coffee grounds are used to produce a wide range of drinks, as well as teas, speciality teas, hot chocolate, milkshakes, soft drinks & even freshly made tap water! The Cullen Skink , served with award winning locally made oatcakes & butter, is gorgeous. There is outside seating at the front, right at the harbour's edge. They are also dog-friendly. If you have a sociable, well behaved dog, you can also eat inside at selected tables. Great for dog owners in bad weather. All in all a must visit if you are hungry in Portsoy. I work there once a week, but also visit with friends. You may think I'm biased, but visit for yourself & see if I'm not right! Since I wrote this, Beggars has now very sadly closed down pending sale of the property.
Beggars belief there are good reviews...gave a cheerful greeting on the way in - ignored - sat for 5 minutes before leaving without any attempt to be served. Sounds like the food's nice if you actually get served. Also looks rather run down and damp, although maybe that's the in thing these days.
Nice little establishment, very helpful and friendly waitress. I had the carrot & coriander soup and my father had the cullen skink both were excellent and reasonably priced. Not sure how the place would handle if it was very busy though.
