Just visited this shop. The person serving was very helpful. I'm a beginner knitter and took in a pattern from a tv programme. She explained some issues with it, then showed me another simple pattern. Talked me through how to read a pattern, how to read a ball of wool and offered lots if advice. Told me to come back any time for help if required. Great little shop

I discovered this wool shop by accident and as an avid knitter myself, there was an urge to go in as the window was so tempting. I was asked if I was ok by a very miserable and hostile lady. Not to be put off I asked if they had a certain type of pattern and tried to make light of the fact I was only looking for a cheap one. I was told in no uncertain terms that they were all the same price. Due to the fact there was zero customer service and I felt very uncomfortable, I'll stick with my regular friendly wool shop. The only nice thing I could say was the lady's colleague seemed to try and compensate for her attitude.

To all intents and purposes, this shop is a knitters paradise with plenty of wool and books and patterns and other delights to spend an hour or so browsing. I viewed several items within the shop and chose a couple of Sirdar pattern books I was interested in. Like many knitters, I have several projects lined up but I like to buy patterns and pattern books to peruse and will choose which pattern I want to make from a book after careful consideration at home. I don't want to feel like I am being forced into making a decision after only glancing at a book prior to purchase in a shop. This sadly, is the attitude of the owner of this shop. The books I'd chosen came to a total in the region of around £25.00 give or take. However, when I got to the counter, I was told I couldn't buy the books unless I bought the wool for a pattern out of each books. Say I only had one book at a price of £10.00, I was now being told the shop would NOT ACCEPT MY PURCHASE, unless I spent a minimum of at least a further £60.00 on yarn! As the shop owner was choosing to refuse a sale on these grounds and as I hadn't decided what to make, I chose to take the name of the books and purchase elsewhere at a cheaper price. I visit Filey several times a year but won't use this shop. If there is something I am interested in, I purposefully chose to make a note and purchase elsewhere because I find it a terrible practice from anyone to try and 'force' you in to buying something you don't want - Trading Standards would rip any company apart for using these tactics and I shall be contacting them directly.
