We took a guided rooftop tour in the morning - highly recommended but there are significant stairs to climb in a narrow circular staircase, some with a high pitch. The view of Bath from the rooftop was amazing. Emilie and Poppy were fantastic tour guides!nnWe returned later that afternoon for the free guided tour of the Abbey itself. Also very informative and recommended!nnThere was a gift shop on site and a small museum below the gift shop.
Beautiful abbey right in the heart of Bath. The architecture is stunning, especially the fan-vaulted ceiling—worth just looking up for a few minutes. Peaceful inside, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. We sat quietly for a bit, soaking in the atmosphere—really added to the Bath experience.
I loved this place because of all of the stories/history on the burial plaques. I felt many were quite moving and gave me insight into the lives of those interned here.nThe roof fan supports are amazing and very unique.
Visiting Bath Abbey was a truly special experience for me. Back in university, I took a course called Architecture of Churches, and Bath Abbey was one of the buildings we studied in detail—so seeing it in person felt both meaningful and surreal.nnThe architecture is breathtaking. The fan vaulting inside is one of the finest examples in England, and the stained glass windows fill the space with light and color. It’s a peaceful and inspiring place to spend time, whether you’re there to admire the craftsmanship or reflect quietly.nnWhat made the visit even more memorable was hearing the bell ringers. Bath Abbey continues the centuries-old English tradition of change ringing, where bells are rung in mathematical sequences rather than melodies. It’s a skilled and historic practice, and it’s amazing to know it still lives on here. The sound of the bells echoing through the city is absolutely beautiful.nnWhether you’re into history, architecture, or simply soaking in the atmosphere of sacred spaces, Bath Abbey is a must-visit!!
I'm never one to miss an opportunity to visit a cathedral or an abbey when on your travels and thanks to our guide Paolo I now know the difference between these two kinds of building .nnYet another wonderful piece of beautiful architecture and the history on show here is incredible. If you have a chance to take the free tour with a guide highly recommend it as you will learn things you never would without. If not though, just enjoy the stunning surroundings as you wander around.
