A fabulous piece of history and a chilled morning of exploring with my 2.5 and 5 year olds. We were very lucky and got to experience the engines moving around in preparation for the beer festival mid may which I would wholeheartedly recommend for any beer lovers - so atmospheric!. The cafe offers a decent range of food and is reasonably priced. The volunteers are clearly dedicated and so friendly - they happily explain and involve the kids. Worth the visit and the yearly family membership is not much more than a single visit - great for any families with train mad kids! This can be purchased on the day.
We really enjoyed our visit, the demonstrations were very informative by very friendly staff. I’ve lived in the area for over 35 years and had no idea it even existed - until now! If you’re into history, nostalgia and trains, or simply looking for somewhere to visit in the area, then I would definitely recommend the Roundhouse Railway Centre.
A great place to visit and get up close with the stock. Knowledgeable and friendly volunteers around and as a bonus, you can also visit the Deltic Preservation Society shed! Food wise, the cafe was really clean, reasonably priced and the food rather good. These are the only photos I have on my phone, the rest are in my camera and yet to be downloaded.
The only working round house a selection of steam and diesel locos inside can see the turntable working a volunteer talked about how it worked ect. very knowledgable not a lot of interaction but might be different in the summer months thought it was a bit expensive £9 per adult £7 per child under 3 free went into the cafe bacon cob was good not keen on the cappuccino free car parking only open at weekends
Our first visit to Barrow Hill showed us what a gem is almost on our doorstep. The volunteers are so knowledgeable. Welcoming and friendly. The locos and railway items on site vary from the early steam locos to brand new wagons.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
The only working round house. Selection of steam and diesel locos inside. We were there when a lovely gentleman volunteer spoke about the Loco turn table, very interesting!. Another young man came to join near the end of the talk. Both very knowledgable volunteers. Interesting information around the museum areas. Not much interaction though, it maybe different during the earlier part of the season? I did think it was a bit pricey at £9 per adult and £7 for a child from 3 years upwards. I know its run by volunteers who do amazing work there. We went in the cafe, bacon cob was good, but wasnt keen on the Cappuccino The museum and cafe only open at weekends. You can gain access to the shop and cafe without having to pay for entry to the Round House. The car park is free.

There's always something new to see here. The brake van ride today with the Class 02 shunter was fantastic. The place is a real credit to the team. Very much worth a visit for railway enthusiasts and it looked popular with families as well. The cafe is really nice.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
