The gardens here are amazing. We particularly enjoyed the white garden. A lovely place to relax and enjoy the sunshine, with good picnic space on the lawn by the house, and plenty of shade from the trees too. The house was fascinating, but nearly entirely unfurnished. We'll definitely be returning to enjoy this property again. Also, check out the incredible sundial!

A lovely house (although not much inside) with outstanding gardens. Would be a wonderful place to take children and families for a picnic on the lawns. The restaurant also does some very good food, although understandably it was rammed full on a sunny bank holiday. Cake selection very good. The gardens were the standout of the visit.

Wonderful National Trust property. Plenty of parking next to the gift shop, and also two different overflow car parks show how popular this place is. There are so many different things to do here... Second hand book barn is literally packed with a huuuge variety of books. There are artisan workshops for jewellery, wood carving, traditional chair making etc. The gardens are immaculate, with a team of gardeners keeping them in amazingly tidy condition. There are so many areas to explore, many with really old buildings attached, like cowsheds. The main lawn in front of the two main buildings is wonderful to play since. Please sports on - Frisbee, cricket, tag, rounders, etc. The main house is fantastically well kept with wonderfully large rooms with loads of information about the Lyle family who lived there. The attic corridor is amazing (imagine playing skittles or riding bicycles indoors!) Plenty of space for picnics without treading on the toes of other visitors. Well worth a visit.

Car park some distance from house. Be careful of uneven paths everywhere. Small tea room in two rooms, order via manned till with service to table number which you need before ordering Good food and drink though to Nat Trust standard. On a fine day lots to visit.

Great house and even better volunteers. They were enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The volunteer at the main door to the house was brilliant to explain the history of the front door and door frame. I would recommend the cafe there as well. It would be more amazing if the place was filled with furnishings though.
