Great location for access to the Water. You have to cross a busy road but there’s an island that makes it easier. Nice hotel, with friendly and welcoming staff. Lovely breakfast and evening meal with good selection of wines. Bed was comfortable, shower was great. Had a relaxing break and wonderful winter’s day walk beside the Water.
Lovely buildings and location close to Rutland Water. Room a little tired, but with complimentary water, tea, coffee and biscuits. Everywhere very clean. Dinner in the restaurant was excellent, with great service and fantastic food. Portion size adequate, meaning starter, main and pudding an actual possibility. Breakfast also did not disappoint. Will definitely stay again or just come for the excellent food.
We have driven past Barnsdale a fair few times and wondered what it was like to visit, the place is lovely, but lacked atmosphere with no background music and when we visited we was sat very close to another couple over lunch in a large conservatory so both couples felt awkward... The food was not great, I would say it's bland and lacks flavour. The staff was very friendly but clearly had a lot to do as they were not very attentive to us. I wouldn't rush back to visit.
Unable to comment on staying as only attended for a group lunch. Fantastic service and we were looked after extremely well. Food was absolutely spot on and cooked to perfection. Highly recommended.Service: 5/5
Nice and clean, but staff definitely won't go the extra mile. Taps and other fixtures breaking off the walls. People walking right by our ground-floor window with failed security chain. No hairdryer in the room despite stating there was one. Tipple and coffee/tea on welcome but nothing for non drinkers and caffein free apart from water, not even a dry biscuit. No choice of decaf or herb tea with hot drink station. Staff don't care to ask 'How was your stay' or 'Is your food ok?'. All veggie food served at the function was very poor, might as well been poured straight out of a can, no garnish, no vegetables, tasteless, undercooked, prison like meals. Meat meals were good, had salad and veggies, garnish and different components and textures. Made us sad, how can someone that calls themselves a chef let that happen in their kitchen? If this doesn’t matter to you then location is great near Rutland Water. Food & drinks: Do not eat here if you're a vegan / vegetarian.
I was disappointed as I book a twin room. And we got a double room. We was in room 2 there is a staircase where you are sleeping. And when people are going in and out of the rooms we found it noisy especially with no carpets down in certain part's. We found some of the staff wasn't very polite. Very few said good morning.
Had dinner here with my wife on a weekend break. The service was excellent, and the food was spectacular although my wife almost divorced me for banging on about it for so long!. Expensive, but so worth it!Service: 5/5

Stayed several times over the years Excellent food. Very comfortable. Warm. Friendly accommodating staff. Lovely location. Marked down as rooms a little tired now. However, big refurbishment taking place in 2023. We'll certainly be back !Rooms: 4/5
Great location. Large car park. Lots of atmosphere. Corridors leading to the bedroom was very tired and battered. Bedroom was large 34 with a fabulous view across the open fields. Lovely bed. Great night's sleep. Toiletries were okay. Could have have another shower gel bottle. Breakfast was excellent.
