I fished the quarry which is definitely not an easy lake, it's very weedy and the coots are a nightmare. The sheds are good and you can park behind your peg meaning you can leave your bivvy and barrow at home. Nice little shop and cafe on site and the bailiffs are very helpful. 2 of us done 5 nights and we both lost 1 fish each.
Cracking days fishing on the middle pool. Plenty of bream nothing less than a lb in weight. Carp were shy however missed a take of a large 10-12lb judging by the size. Highly recommended!
Firstly, I would just like to state that I am highly disappointed and will never return after the experience me and 2 others in my group had this weekend. On arrival, I met with the other 2 in our group, we were all really excited. We luckily we were first drawn so we were able to got the pegs we wanted. We overheard a gentleman asking the member of staff in the shop “how bad is the weed at bridge pool”. The gentleman at the shop said it was pretty bad at the moment and that there was nothing they could do about it. We booked 48hrs for 3 of us and once we arrived to our pegs it was very clear the weeds had completely taken over. We were all extremely disappointed as we had brought all our new equipment; bait boats, spod rods, deeper’s etc to the session, and we’re unable to use it due to thick weeds and no clear spots. It wasn’t until we got close up to the lake that we realised how bad it was and that it was by far, the worst experience and lake I’ve attended. The whole lake was poorly looked after, weeds covered from peg 3 all the way down past peg 7. It was impossible to cast out without get caught on the weed, which is a hazard as although we didn’t need to at the time, a less experienced angler may need to cut their line meaning the bottom of the lake would be littered with hooks, weights and excessive fishing line. This as I’m sure your aware is not good for the fish or for an anglers experience. I also paid over £40 for frozen boilies that we were putting into the lake, but how were they able to eat the bait due to the thickness of weed. Every time we cast out we were bringing back in so much weed tangled in out line, that eventually we decided to get in with out waders on to clear some of it around out swims. The photos don’t do justice on how extreme it was. We spent hours trying to clear our pegs to be able to fish. Spombing was near impossible, just the same as casting out with your rig but worse due to the weight of the spomb and bait. It would instantly get tangled on the surface weed. If you don’t have a strong rod or line I highly recommended if you decide to fish this lake, having a strong line and good test curve rods including strength to pull the weed up. Later on within our first 24 hours, we decided to have a wonder round the lake to see if there was anywhere else we could fish, as we already wanted to go home even though we paid for a 48hrs night fish. We also spoke to another angler who confirmed this is the worst he’s ever seen on this lake and he’s was also highly disappointed because he couldn't fish it either. He mentioned he was told by staff that they planned to clear the weed next week & that some pegs had been sectioned off on the other side of the lake that were cleared of some weed. This fishing complex should not be taking bookings and peoples money with the ridiculous poor weed control. The complex is more interested in taking your money than making your experience the best possible. If they were unable to sort the lake so that it is suitable they should be offering a refund or NOT allowing you to book such a poorly maintained lake. That level of weed growth didn’t appear overnight so there was ample opportunity to notify anglers of the situation or to sort it in time for their busy weekend. There is no excuse and it took several messages to the complex to find out if we could attend another lake, by time we received a response we were already fully setup and at the end of our first 24 hrs. In addition to all of these issues, to add insult to injury my £25000 car has been damaged on the complex. Driving along the paths to the lake the sides of my whole car was scratch because of the lack of vegetation cut on the side of the roads. We won’t be attending ever again, save your money and book with a complex that cares about the anglers experience. I have attached photos for reference.
A beautiful place the cafe is excellent the pools are of various abilities
Brilliant staff, they can't help you enough. Fabulous location with amazing pools to suit all levels of angler, that are clean tidy and well maintained. On-site angling shop has everything you need. Very impressed.
I fished one of the specimen waters and found it hard going to catch but to be fair the conditions were very windy and a drop in temperature. Also i found the lake pretty weedy so think about your rig selection. The tackle shop onsite is open so you can buy any bait you may need and any tackle or equipment. Any other queries just ring the office ir visit their informative website.
Love this place middle pool is a great runs water you may need to go a few times to get your head around what’s working I’ve fished glovers a few times and bridge pool with no luck but when I fish these pools I know what I’m fishing for it’s not a heavily stocked lakes but the fish that you catch when you do are worth the wait these carp and pike are in amazing condition. Also I’d like to add the shop everything you need the grounds are so well looked after.
This is an amazing place with lots of lakes to suit every angler they have a well established fishing shop and a cafe my fishing trip was hard because the peg I was on was full of weed but managed to bag myself a lovely common at 24 .9 oz thanks baden hall
