Avoncroft Museum Of Historic Buildings
"Since it opened in 1967 Avoncroft Museum of Historic Buildings has developed into one of Britain’s best-known award-winning open-air museums. The museum was conceived after a campaign in 1962 by local people to prevent the demolition of an ancient timber framed house in Bromsgrove. The Mediaeval town house became the first exhibit to be repaired and re-erected on the site and was soon followed by many more. Today there over 30 rescued Historic Buildings spanning 700 years including Victorian Toll house, 1940s prefab, Windmill & the National Telephone Kiosk Collection. The rural location backdrop is the perfect setting for weddings, filming, learning, and events. The museum has become the home for annual Festivals."

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit here. It's a privately owned collection with no public money so it exists by people visiting and on donations. They have rescued many old buildings that would otherwise have been demolished and now have a great collection spanning a good but of local history. Not so many volunteers there on the day we visited, but still a great day out. Nice tea shop too.
We paid a flying visit to the museum as we were looking for a venue for en event. What a beautiful place! So peaceful! Lovely old buildings nestled in with spectacular trees. Wonderful plants everywhere, and such a lovely energy. Fantastic panoramic views from the Windmill field. We will certainly be heading back there soon for a proper visit, and hopefully try out the little bedroom too! Friendly staff, highly recommended.
What a stunning and unique museum ! Over 30 rescued buildings that were at risk of demolition or decay, all rebuilt and preserved over a huge site near Bromsgrove. The volunteers are simply brilliant. They are all so passionate about the museum and will talk to you at length, and in depth about their specialty. Absolutely Fascinating
I spent a most enjoyable few hours at this museum It contains a variety of buildings that were moved to this site so that they are preserved for people to see. Apart from these buildings the museum also has the National Collection of telephone boxes which I found to be most interesting to look around Very helpful and friendly staff.
Great place to visit with a difference and not too expensive. Kids enjoyed exploring all the different buildings and using the phones in the phone boxes. And the train which cost 50p! Definitely recommendVisited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
A fascinating insight into social history, through various buildings covering the eras. Worth supporting, in order to preserve them. If for some reason you're also very interested in phone boxes somebody will then they have a little section for that.
I really enjoyed this museum, it really is great. There are 30 or so old houses relocated from around the country onto this site. It's nicely set out with lots of grass and easy to get around. It isn't commercialised and is nicely laid out. We were able to go into many, there are some wonderful curiosities, amazing. There is even an old telephone exchange. It's so nice walking around the site, only let down was the tearoom wasn't great, overpressured I'd guess. It's a must see place for all the history.
Wonderful place to visit. Some great historical buildings that have been saved. Historical reenactments on several times a year. Lovely 1940s weekend at Avoncroft this weekend, well worth a visit beautiful restored historic buildings cost £11 entry far better value & better laid out than blists hill which is extremely expensive. Brilliant family day out
