I had an eye check and retinopathy check today. I was phoned the day before to confirm my appointment and check if I was fine to come. The staff were very welcoming, pleasant and friendly but still very professional and they listened to me. As a clinically vulnerable patient I felt that they had processes in place to keep me safe and for this I am very grateful. Jas, the optician, gave me a thorough check, taking my concerns seriously and listened very carefully at the problem I had. She asked for extra tests to ensure nothing was missed. She gave me advice and a letter for my GP. The assistants were caring and supportive in moving me around the practice. Ian was very helpful when choosing glasses and sorting out my reading glasses for me. I can recommend A&H for eye care.
I booked my mum's eye test appointment at this place. It's standard practice they give you a call a day before the appointment. The optician's called me Wednesday 15th September 2021 at 14:43pm, to remind us of the appointment. I actually said to the lady are you sure I thought the appointment was Thursday 30th. She told me the appointment is tomorrow 16th September 2021. We turned up for the appointment they did the pre eye test check up. We were called into the eye test room and started talking to the optician. A staff member walked into the room and asked for the records. It became apparent, a lady that has the same name as my mum it was her appointment. X staff member came into the room to tell us this, he explained they had the name sake lady and another appointment. He went onto to say, you still have your appointment on Thursday 30th like this is some consolation. Instead of trying to accommodate us, we were asked to leave like we did something wrong. This error only came to light because the other patient turned up otherwise they were using the incorrect records for my mum. I left work early to take my mum to this appointment. Not only is my mum a recovering stroke victim, she fell and broke her wrist which was out of cast for a week. She is very fragile and it's not easy taking her to appointments. It's an hour of my time I will not get back, and I'll have to do it again on the 30th. X did ring me to apologise and offered a 10% discount on glasses. I told him we will not be purchasing glasses from his optician. The 10% does not even cover my hourly pay rate and I will be making two trips to this place in peak traffic. ** 29/09/2021 @ 12:11pm - they called to confirm tomorrow's appointment. Never even confirmed the patient's date of birth or address to ensure correct person. So much for learning? Useless. ** 30/09/2021 - If this optician wanted to demonstrate they have put a telephone process or procedure in place, to prevent a repeat of what happened to myself. You would think they would use common sense and use the process on me. It's evident they never had a process or just lack common sense, perhaps both. Most of the equipment in this place is old and battered. This was demonstrated when they struggled to get the eye camera to work. The lady called X and he started fiddling around with wires which was more waste of my time. The best one this optician asked me to wait for a letter and I agreed to do this. However, I was given two letters, one copy for us and the other for the doctor. It's dawned on me why they asked me to wait because they wanted to save on the cost of two stamps. Tight and pathetic comes to mind see photo identical letters. The owner offered me 10% off any glasses? That does not even cover my hourly pay rate, petrol and time for the wasted journey. It's pathetic, an insult and that's putting it mildly. I'll summarise this opticians, unprofessional, incompetent, small, has old equipment that sells glasses at grossly inflated prices. If you don't believe me about prices compare them to other High Street opticians. I have concerns so will be writing to the organisation that awards the diabetic screening contract. 01/10/2021 15:58pm - I rang the opticians to request they send the letter to the doctor. She gave me every excuse, might get lost etc. I told her I won't be taking the letter, so if they don't send it that's on them. Every other opticians sends mail to the doctor but this one does not purely to avoid postage costs. The refusal to send the letter to the doctor's, leaves me no choice but to submit a formal complaint to the NHS or governing body. A simple request I got abuse from the lady. I did call Boots to ask if they did diabetic eye tests. Unfortunately, they don't but the lady did say 4 Sight might in West Bromwich town centre. If you want service and better priced glasses I suggest going elsewhere, the owner's response are just words he cannot back it up. Most opticians provide a comprehensive eye test so you really don't need to come to this place.
I have been going to this optician for years. The premises are bright, clean and comfortable with up to date equipment. They look after my whole family and extended family. I have always found them to be friendly, thorough, fair and professional. We wouldn’t trust anyone else to look after our eyes.
Highly recommend this opticians. Very professional and friendly with the personal touch. Unlike the big chains. I wouldn’t go anywhere else now.
Love the service from everyone working here, very kind and polite and have always been seen quickly whenever there’s a problem!! Been here with attewell since i was 16 !!
My first experience using Attewell & Hardwick opticians, and what an experience !! My eye examination threw up a problem with my left eye, the optician gave me an urgent referral to City Hospital Eye Care Dept for exam and scan. Turned out to be not too serious, but I am eternally grateful the the prompt action of the optician. My second appointment was to choose frames, so very helpful and nothing was too much trouble, third appointment to pick up my glasses again nothing was too much trouble with fitting and making sure I was happy, thank you Kathryn. Needless to say this is my new go to Optician. Thank you all so much Joy Wilson
Excellent customer service. Optometrist friendly and efficient.
Excellent service from reception through examination, choosing frames then collecting glasses. Glasses were available within a few days for collection and I'm well pleased with them. Very professional and friendly staff.
I have been going to this family run business since I was a young girl. I’m now 58, in all those years they have never let me down. Great customer care, extremely professional and now my whole family go there. I have NO hesitation in recommending them. Keep up the great work.
Came here recently during difficult time of the year. With the added challenge of covid regulations, I have to say they have handled things remarkably. I already knew by reputation and that I was a patient of the company before, that they are professional, offer a great friendly service and your better off with independent opticians as you get more tailermade service. The staff here work hard to make sure you get the best out of optics and quick service.
