We went to Callow Top mid-september at this time of year the weather was mixed. We used all facilities on site from having pub grub to playing pool in Arnold's bar. My 10-year-old enjoyed the site with its facilities although he would recommend having some swings for children of his age as the play area is suitable for younger children. The swimming pool is heated and provided an excellent pastime. We noticed the fishing pool at the bottom of the hill before the climb to the site, my future visits I will find myself using the pool for a spot of relaxing fishing. Ashbourne is only a short drive away with all amenities required although the site shop is well stocked for all your needs! Reasonably priced we had an hard standing pitch with awning. Also ample camping areas available within the fields. We will be back soon and hopefully we will use the site more often in the coming years!!
Great site for families, we visited to set up our motorhome for my son and grandson for a long weekend. The site was perfect for them with all the amenities they needed. For us we would choose a smaller site. Whilst I understand the policy to charge a deposit for us to set up the van and awning to charge us each £10 and only allow us 1 hour we felt was a little unfair. It was a rush to get it all done properly for 2 non campers in this time.
Well placed and beautiful caravan park. Lots of facilities. Shop and pub on site. Didn't use the outside swimming pool but it looked very inviting. Must be great to use in summer. Good pitch sizes. Well maintained site lots of toilet and shower blocks. Laundry and pot washing facilities. That's positives. Negative, the curse of the electric scooters /toys. Serious accident waiting to happen.
Just returned from a 2 day stay was on field 5 lots of space for tent car etc . The site is well maintenced showers are hot and spacious. Nice little pub and site shop is averagely priced. . The swimming pool is fabulous perfect for my teenage boys. We will be returning very soon
We visited on the w/e 14/05/22. This was our first time camping as a family with two children under 12. We had a great time and whilst the kids had to adjust to a few days without TV , they had a good time. The pitch we had was a good size and the location in field 7 was okay; upside is that we had lots of sun and good views - downside, very open to the elements but hey, it's camping. The location is good and the check in was easy, though I can imagine at very high-season it can be difficult as the management of it is a little lacking. The site itself is easy to get around and the kids loved running around; the play area isn't huge is aimed to younger children. As the weather was amazing for us on the Saturday the pool was brilliant; it was busy though and they could easily double the size and it would still be busy. It was good though and we had some fun. The pub is fine, the menu isn't huge and it's simple; not for healthy food lovers! The majority of the place seems to be managed by young people, they were all very polite and whilst it isn't silver-service, I thought they were great. Overall we liked it a lot and we will definitely go back; of course the weather always helps.
Brilliant place with lots to do. Very clean and great staff. Looking forward to my next visit. Nearby activities: Heated outdoor swimming pool
Campsite is quite commercial, we were on a field away from the main facilities which was a bonus for us. The playing field was a walk from site through theain barriers and by the side of the private road, it was a large field with football posts, could benefit from having a dog exercise field there instead as most kids played in their camping field. The pool was well maintained, but cold, although this didn't put the children off. May be worth having select times or bookable slots in high season. Very reasonably priced and clean/ well maintained.
Booked two nights in August for ourselves and granddaughter in a campervan. We knew it was a family friendly site so would be busy but just right for our 9 year old fellow traveller. It was just right. For us oldies it did feel a bit like Lord of the Flies at first, with kids flying all over the place ;running, scooting, biking, escootering, but we got used to it quite quickly. Parents are obviously a bit more confident about their children of all ages as the thought of them all running around the camp roads with traffic was a bit nerve wracking. But after 10 or 10.30 the site settled down, just as the camp Web site says. There was no drunken people around nor loud voices into the night. Our granddaughter and my wife enjoyed the pool. Three visits over the day and a half and a life guard on hand who did on some occasions blow his whistle, so he was watching what was going on. Playpark was good. Granddaughter always notices that they don't have swings. Good pub with decent food. Well stocked shop. Different fields on the site that looks like it can cope with all tastes in camping. Staff were brilliant. Very friendly, always helpful . Quite a few out on daily litter picks. I think if we were going camping with our granddaughter again we'd definitely consider a repeat visit
A really popular site with tents, tourers and caravans. A real family friendly site with a convenient on site shop and pub. Found the pub menu a little limited, with only burgers and pizzas, but still nice.
Nice site with great facilities. Shop was well stocked, pub was decent with nice ales and good food Site is perhaps a bit too large for my liking, lots of noisy kids running around late into the night although that's not the site owners fault.
