Assunnah Islamic Centre

Story

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Introduction
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Assunnah Islamic Centre (AIC) was established in 1997 by a group of concerned Muslims to advance the Islamic religion, educate the Muslim community and help Muslims settle and adapt to life in a non-Islamic country.

Located in North London, AIC is the heart of the local Muslim population. It acts as an anchor in the lives of thousands of people, educating children and providing a focal point for teenagers and families.

In May 2003, Assunnah Islamic Centre was officially established.

Services

Over the years the size of the local community who use AIC has grown Alhamduillah. Adding to this ever increasing number, we are also being used by the wider Islamic community to provide religious and cultural guidance, holding activity days and hosting Islamic lectures as well as providing advice and services to individuals and families.

At its core AIC’s aims are to educate the Muslim community by providing a range of services. These include

· Daily Prayers
· Friday and Eid ceremonies.
· Shari’ah Advice and Guidance
· Quranic Madrasah for children (weekday evenings and weekends)
· Primary School
· Youth Services (Brothers and Sisters)
· Regular Weekly Lectures
· Islamic Conferences
· Support for New Muslims
· Islamic Library
· Hajj and Umrah Training

An open and welcoming place for the regular daily prayers and Friday ceremonies as well as teaching over 1000 children in our Madrasah teaching children how to read, write, recite and memorise the Noble Quran. As well as giving them a firm grounding in Islamic etiquettes and studies.

Alongside our Madrasah, we have also established Assunnah Primary School in 2007 as a response to the demands of our community. Initially, it was a home school catering for 40 students. Due to increasing demand from the local community, the School rapidly expanded and attained Department of Education recognition. The School continues to grow from strength to strength. The Primary School, like the Madrasah seeks to provide a safe and caring Islamic environment for our children, as well as allowing our children to discover and appreciate the value of learning.

In addition to Islamic education, the School also complies with the requirements of the National Curriculum in all subjects, including English, Math, Science, ICT and PE. However space is extremely limited and the School as well as the Madrasah, are both oversubscribed, with an extensive waiting list of pupils from inside and outside the borough.

As well as our Madrasah and Primary School, we also house our youth project, Assunnah Youth, which seeks to help and support youth experiencing a range of social issues as well helping those who are Muslim practice their faith as well as giving da’wa to those who are non-Muslims.

AIC also hosts residential courses, guest seminars and lectures attended by individuals from all over the UK and further afield. We have recently established Assunnah Institute in July 2012, with the aim of providing structured Islamic courses for adults.

The khutbahs for jummah are 99% of times in somali. No point going for jummah cause chances are you won't benefit from the khutbah unless you understand Somali. Whilst the community around the mosque is mostly made up of the Somali community, there's still a handful that attend jummah there that aren't Somali. If you look at other mosques in a similar situation e.g. Finsbury Park (which has a huge Arab community) the khutbahs are in both Arabic and English. The khutbahs are supposed to inspire us to become better Muslims. But if I don't understand what the khutbahs is teaching us I can't improve myself. Other than that, it's a nice, small mosque with a friendly atmosphere. You'll always meet awesome people there, especially if you go during Ramadan. There's also free parking available in the Aldi across the road.

Friendly Islamic community, this is a primary school with a nursery across the road. It also functions as a mosque which is very convenient in the way the Islamic place is designed with places to make your wudhu and more.
