We purchased an Ashwood Hamilton three-seater sofa and a single seat recliner and a two-seater non recliner sofa in June 2017 and it was delivered in August 2017. We identified some faults very quickly which with the assistance of the retailer were rectified very quickly.nnThe suite was not utilised between the period December 2017 to September 2020. In September 2020 we started to use it on a daily basis and by November 2020 we realised the seat base that had been replaced had once again failed,nnThe retailer visited and agreed that it had indeed failed and recommended three seat cushions be replaced the two on the three-seater sofa and the one on the single seat which had also failed. As I was out of warranty for seat inserts this cost me £210 plus an additional £100 to have them fitted.nnThese were duly replaced in January 2021 and to cut a long story short they were replaced a further twice free of charge. The major issue was each replacement utilised seating foam which was harder than that used in the previous iteration.nnThe final iteration showed signs of failing within a matter of days, it appeared the harder the foam the quicker the failure. This culminated in the retailer stating in May 2021 that there was nothing else they could do for me and they suggested I contact the Furniture Ombudsman which I duly did. Needless to say, they found against me as the suite was more than 6 months old.nnSo off to the small claims court I did trot and as part of the process the retailer and I had to agree on an independent inspector to look at and report on the suite.nnHis report detailed some 15 faults some classified as major manufacturing defects but most importantly he highlighted that one cushion on the three-seater sofa was 2 cm smaller than the other. It was the smaller cushion that kept failing.nnHe also noticed major density loss in all cushions and that the cushions on the two-seater settee comprised of a different quality of foam to that in the single and three-seater units. He also noticed that the foam was not shaped to the back of the settee meaning every time you sat in one of these seats you literally collapsed into it and the seat cushions moved forward.nnAshwood’s response to his report was not what I would expect from a manufacturer of quality furniture but it was what I had come to expect from them as I wrote to them numerous times and never received an acknowledgement let alone a response. Their response to the size difference was that it was a manufacturing tolerance. So, in effect if you have a sofa with three cushions then you couldnfind they are all different sizes like ours. Manufacturing tolerances are normally measured in mm not cm.nnSo, I would advise anyone who was thinking of purchasing one of their suites to think long and hard before doing so.nnIn my case I went to Swansea County Court this morning and was successful in my claim.nnToo many suite manufacturers are using cushion settlement as a means of avoiding their responsibilities. I had purchased a three-seater settee for our family room a year before purchasing this suite it cost less and to this date no cushion settlement, no fraying of seams and it looks as it did the day it was received. If you have a similar problem do not be afraid of going to the small claims court. Unfortunately, you have to sue the retailer as you do not have a contract with Ashwood’s.nnI hope this review is of use to someone.nnUnfortunately, I have to award them one star I would like to have awarded them a minus figure.
Faulty sofa which was inspected by HOMESERVE, a sub contractor.nInitial inspection verified our complaint and rectification went for the cheaper option of replacing seat cushions. As expected sofa continued to sag in the middle and on third inspection found no fault. Second engineer did not appear after waiting in all day.nnSpoke to Glen at Ashwood in complaints department and also coordinated with the retailer about our concerns.nnEnd result was that third engineer found no broken springs, though the report detailed a 60 minute visit which was in fact 20mins.nRegret that though my retailer tried to fight my corner, Ashwood drew a line under the third report, though the first report found fault. A good friend had the sofa so a comparison could be made as to quality.nnSo take care when purchasing an Ashwood product as after sales might not be what you expect.nnFor the record the retailer gave me a full refund and collected the sofa which has been donated to BHF.
Whilst accepting that we are now beyond the guarantee by just 2 years the sofa has rapidly deteriorated. The finish is uneven, especially the stitching, the cushions have collapsed so has the frame.
My Tailor large sofa was delivered last week, couldn’t be happier with its stylish look, comfort and colourIt is everything I hoped it would be and would definately recommend, great service too
Dreadful quality only received in October and arm has already Brocken and the seat as only been sat in a handful of times
