Gorgeous hike, relatively easy - around 30-1hr walk, starts with a slow ascent and then increases in steepness for the last 100m to the top. Many trails and easy access from the city - hiking gear not necessary. Great place to catch a sunset.
We set off first thing in the morning from our apartment to Arthur’s Seat. It was actually quite a challenged hike up the final part but my goodness it was worth it. The views were incredible!! Here are some tips if you’re thinking about making the trek up… 1. Plan ahead: Make sure to check the weather forecast and wear appropriate clothing and footwear. It's a good idea to bring a rain jacket and sturdy hiking shoes, even if the forecast is good. We actually seen someone wearing slides making there way up 2. Start early: Arthur's Seat can get quite busy during peak hours, so try to begin your hike early in the morning to avoid the crowds. 3. Bring water and snacks: The hike can be strenuous, so make sure to stay hydrated and have some snacks to keep your energy levels up. 4. Take your time: Arthur's Seat is a challenging hike, so don't feel rushed to reach the summit. Take your time and enjoy the views along the way. 5. Be aware of the terrain: Arthur's Seat is a rocky and uneven hike, so be prepared for some steep inclines and rocky paths. Watch your step and take care when navigating the terrain. Have fun!
My second visit, spectacular view from the top, can get a bit windy but that is expected on any hill/mountain. There are few routes to climbing the Seat but choose carefully and wisely based on your experience.
Arthur's Seat is a popular sightseeing place in Edinburgh known for its stunning view of the city and scenic trekking trails. This peak offers a fantastic vantage point to observe the beauty of Edinburgh and its surroundings. The panoramic view of the city from the top of the peak is breathtaking and worth the hike. Arthur's Seat is a perfect destination for outdoor enthusiasts, adventure seekers, and nature lovers. The trek to the top is not too strenuous, but the trail can be a bit challenging at times. However, the experience is well worth the effort, as the panoramic views of the city are unparalleled.
Good little walk, sensible footwear and layers recommended! The main summit was very busy and overcrowded when we went, so we went off to the hill on the left as you go up and it was a lot quieter, managed to get some photos without other people's heads in them. Very windy!
It’s a must. Visiting Edinburgh and not walking up Arthur’s Seat should be a crime. We decided to walk up in less than ideal footwear during the snow and still made it to the top walking boots recommended as was slippery in places…. View from the top is incredible, also recommend warmer clothes in winter as the top is rather windy! It’s not the longest hike you’ll do but would probably take just under an hour to the top at a gentle pace. Enjoy the top and take in the scenery
Visited in 2017. Spent more time out of breath than anything..‍ Disclaimer I'm Not a hiker just a tourist and a lover of the Highlands and its unique and romantic culture. So whilst Unfortunately I didn't get to the top I captured some lovely photos!
Not for the faint hearted, but an exhilarating climb with amazing views at the top. For your comfort and safety, make sure to bring warm clothes, wellies/boots and some water.
Magnificent view, located within Holyrood Park. It's not an easy climb, especially during winter. It can be icy and slippery climb up to this ancient volcano. I'm not sure how Arthur Seat got its name, and it could be related to King Arthur.
Gorgeous view. You can wander up any of the dozens of trails that riddle the whole mountain, and get a stunning view whichever one you pick. Some trails are rock steps, some are dirt slopes, and when you get close to the top there's no real trail it's just scale the rocks as best as you can to get to the highest point. I would definitely recommend going just before sunset, it's the most beautiful view over Edinburgh with the sun going down behind it. If you're asthmatic I would also recommend bringing your puffer because it's quite a climb, albeit relatively short. It takes about 30min-1h to get to the top depending on where you start and how fast you walk. About 2h return including a few mins at the top marvelling at the view.
