Arthur Johnson and Co have become very greedy in the last few years, I remember buyers premium being 15% but these days it's crept to 25% buyers premium plus vat which is extortionate compared to other auctions I have been to, especially in a recession, I have been coming to this auction since 1983 and it used to be brilliant, literally buzzing on Saturday mornings now a lot of the market traders have disappeared because of the rising cost of renting a pitch, I asked a few of them "why are they packing up" Their answer was because rising costs of pitch prices and lack of people coming these days, One particular market stall holder said to me, he goes to Calverton car boot sale now because its cheaper, Even Cleaver meats left the site on Saturday mornings because of the same reasons, plus the fish monger. It seems to me AJ will capitalise on any form of financial gain eg admission charges for the auction premises and £5 football traffic admission. Because of my knowledge of this market I personally have seen the decline over the past decade; It is genuinely such a shame and if The management of Arthur Johnson open their eyes and saw the bigger picture they may realise this their selves. My suggestion is to the management is change this attitude before its too late.
Great auctioneer's. Bought some fantastic pieces. Helpful auctioneer’s in particular Jason and his team in auction room 3, on a Friday viewing day nothing ever to much trouble and answers any questions about items, very knowledgeable and usually right.
Brilliant choice for furniture at great prices. I won't be heading back to the High Street any time soon! Staff were incredibly helpful and friendly making the while bidding experience very easy
We’ve pretty much furnished our house with Arthur Johnson, the staff are so friendly and always willing to help. When we bought a dining table set and noticed a chair was damaged the team were quick to replace it for us! Their delivery service is fantastic. Couldn’t fault them, and will be buying a lot more.
Fabulous place to go! We’ve bought stuff from all the sale rooms over the years. We go in person but also bid online, both of which are very easy. Much of our furniture both inside and outside has been purchased from here and we are very happy. Thank you
Hi Lee, no need to be careful. The rules of thumb for Room 6 is firstly do not take whatever they say in description for it and secondly try pay less than the value of scrap so you don't cry if it does not work found it useless. After all, hardly is anything sold on there warranted.
Excellent range of items sold. Well worth a look. Every member of staff is friendly, approachable and very helpful.
An excellent antique house with viewings on Friday. Don't buy MDF or remotely viewed only furniture, fill your palace with hardwood, vintage and metal antique pieces instead.
Going to this place for years , bought a combi microwave from sale room 6 which was returned kitchen items . You have to bare in mind that upon hammer fall you will pay 50 per cent on top and the buyer pays a further 28 per cent so they are making with vat 80 per cent on the sale . I found when I got it home it wouldn’t power up . Do not buy anything here on line or without fully testing , go along with the philosophy you are buying a scrap item then you won’t go far wrong but you have to believe that Saleroom 5 and 6 are in an auction for one reason mainly no comeback and faulty goods .
This auction house must be one of the best in the UK that I personally know of, I have search the Internet for many sites that provide photographic detail of its sale item and I've found none better for it 5-6 auction houses at Nottingham. But auctions, you only get a real bargain if you are the sole bidder, but saying that you still stand to get a bargain. I can not speak for sellers. Personally, I've never sold anymore to date. Summer time around the auction houses is buzzing with all kinda of market stalls, which can only be a plus for the Auction, I have enjoyed many a Saturday morning here there is always a good atmosphere and the auctioneers can be entertaining. Well worth a visit!
