A bit of context: Last night I was an American tourist. I have also lived in the UK for 4 years 2011-2015. I like curries but American attempts are enough to make you think you may dislike this cuisine. This unassuming restaurant front leads to an intimate upstairs dining room. There, we were greeted by a friendly host who entertained and helped navigate this interesting menu. His cadence was excellent. The restaurant is BYOB. The menu contained numerous outstanding dishes. We tried Shatkora - a drier curry prepared with a citrus-y deep flavor. I learned this was a traditional Bengali dish and it was both excellent and unique. We had the vegetable version which was a mixture of cauliflower, potato, and peppers. We also got the Murgi Keema Buhna a chicken buhna with ground lamb in the sauce. Outstanding. The peshwari Naan was served with honey drizzled, a nice touch. The curry came with rice, which was aromatic and had been twice cooked once steamed or boiled but then finished on a flat top grill. All of this is excellent. Since we are in Bourton, you might think this place would cater to the high tourist volume. It *can*, I am sure, but this is truly an authentic curry house and definitely worth the visit if you are in Bourton for an evening. It really shines if you are sick of the usual pub food. Overall the food was great. The service was great. The price was very reasonable. I'll be back next time I am in Bourton.
Was the first time that we tried the food. Must say, it was fantastic, wonderful service and warm welcoming, even though we were out of towners. Catered for a range of allergies, which is great. Could tell that the place was popular, we had to wait over an hour, but was fine, was worth the wait. The locals that went, could tell they enjoyed it too as they raved about it, and was great atmosphere. Worth a visit if you're after a curry!
One of the best curries that I have ever eaten! The entrance is a typical takeaway counter but don't let that put you off as the food is the star of the show! We had two amazing dishes and were amazed at the quality throughout. Cannot recommend highly enough
Oh my goodness what can I say! This was our first visit to this restaurant and it definitely won’t be our last. The Biryani I had is simply one of the best I have ever eaten and I have tried many. The host was so lovely, friendly and attentive which made our visit all the more enjoyable, and the young lady who brought our food to us was polite and friendly. The service couldn’t be faulted at all. It’s a takeaway downstairs but a small and tasteful restaurant upstairs.well worth a visit if you’re out that way. You won’t be disappointed. Wheelchair accessibility: Not wheelchair accessible unfortunately but you could get a takeaway if you absolutely can’t manage the stairs and don’t want to miss out on the amazing food.
Nice welcoming funny guy Abdul although very controversial and politically incorrect with his humour, some may say unprofessional but we didn't mind it. Food not bad but nothing special at all. Spent £50 for 2 of us with no drinks no licence so can bring your own and only ordered 2 mains and a couple of sides so felt not great value for money. Not bad experience but wouldn't rush back.
Every year when we go on holiday to Bourton we visit Aroma for a takeaway. You have never tasted food this good its sensational !! All freshly cooked and served lovely and hot. The man serving has a great sense of humour. 5* all round.
Aroma Restaurant is a must-visit location in Bourton on the Water. All our choices were nicely presented, very flavourful and the portions were ample. Our host was very friendly and helpful in recommending and pairing dishes. We experimented with new selections we had not tried before and were extremely pleased! This is a place to return to again and again!
It is a very small restaurant however along with the authentic building and actual number of dinners it doesn’t matter. The tasty was pretty good but I would prefer the rice to be a bit more boiled. The quality and quantity were a okay for the value of the money, it wasn’t something extra ordinary. But the service were extra special, friendly and fun. Enjoy
Had a brilliant time. The food was excellent and the host was funny, made for a fantastic evening. Will definitely visit again when next that way.
Being an INDIAN, I know Indian flavours more than anyone else. Food is average, infact the chutneys are comparatively low in blends of taste compared to others in the town. WAIT TIME FOR SERVING IS A PANIC; EXPECT min 1HOUR TO GET THE MAIN COURSE SERVED.
