I’m a parent who also works with children myself and did a lot of research before sending our son to this school. It seemed a great environment on paper however we I saw a massive change in our child’s behaviour after only a few weeks within this school. I believe they prejudged me and my son and felt the answer to every issue was detention. Child late because of an accident along the way, detention, child didn’t bring tie on first week, detention, child doesn’t have a compass as a list has not been provided of what tools the children need in first week and the school stationary shop is out of tool required irrespective of an email sent by myself to ask what is required during the summer break, detention. Some parents may agree with this line of discipline however in a world that has just gone through a pandemic whereby young children's mental health has been challenged I did not feel this was the right place for us and removed my son. I also found it near impossible to contact the school during a normal school day. The phone was hardly answered. The detentions were not communicated to parents which was mentioned by a student to us on our tour however I thought they may have been exaggerating. The school did have some good qualities and the head teacher did attempt to resolve some of our complaints however it did not match up to our expectations for a secondary school.
I have studied in Ark Putney Academy for the past 7 years!! I must admit that they have always supported all their students and made sure that they are achieving what they want. The staff in this school are very supportive and understanding. The academies environment is comfortable and friendly. I would recommend students to join this academy to get the support to succeed in life! ::
This school has some decent teachers but most of them aren't serious or nice. Either they don't care or are over tempered and very rude. Also for the sixth form hasn't got many choices. The rules of the school are to strict, it feels more like a camp rather than a school. There is also a lack of teachers.
Been here from september 2014 to 2021 but definitely haven't enjoyed every day but sometimes it was mostly good. Really like some of the teachers and who are some of the smartest teachers I met and I do look up to them also.
Im a student at the sixth form and just started year 12. The teachers are nice, the food is good and i feel apart of the community. The teachers have also helped me to get into the mindset of a levels.
Personally, my sixth form experience in Ark Putney Academy was great due to the teachers being very welcoming and helpful with coursework and uni applications. Although my teachers on my course were very helpful and welcoming, some teaching methods some of my teachers used to mark and set coursework wasn't benefiting the class and they refused to change their methods as it benefitted them more, in addition, I had a few of my friends complaining to me about how a teacher had picked on them in class in front of their peers as a form of entertainment for themselves, resulting in my friend dropping their course as they believed they weren't being treated fairly.
I've been at APA since year 7 and under the new principle Ms Downey it has definitely improved and I enjoyed being a student at the academy. I recommend that if you live in the area you should send your child here to receive a great education and they will certainly be prepared for the external community.
Really good school my child has improved so much. I like that they are stricked with the kids. Detention doesn't hurt anyone. It all depends on your child. Don't blame the school.
Been here for 7 years and they've been the best 7 years I spent. The teachers will be with you through thick and thin and help you achieve your potential and more so.
I hated this school, because they're making me leave. After 7 years i have find out that the education provided has done nothing but improve, would recommend for both lower years and also for 6th form.
