We booked a room here last night and couldn't of been happier, the room was spacious and cosy, tucked away above the main pub. The bath was fantastic and the staff went absolutely above and beyond to help us. Would happily recommend the place to anyone in the future. There was a little bit of noise from the downstairs pub which wasn't intrusive whilst it was open but once it closed at 11 it was pin drop quiet for a lovely night's sleep.
Myself and my family were on holiday visiting the area. We booked this restaurant in advance, they were good via phone organising a table to accommodate a baby and a dog. When we arrived to the restaurant we were not acknowledged at all, no one seated us and look at us blankly whilst around5 staff members were behind the bar. Eventually we were seated after 10 mins, menus were not brought out so we helped ourselves to a pile on the desk. We ordered the sea bass and burgers. The sea bass was an incredibly small portion, we had to ask for additional chips. The cost was £23 and although it tasted good it was not £23 worth of food. We also asked for two portions of chips and one was brought out. The burger was described as brisket, this was not what was served. It was more like a normal beef burger. There was supposed to be a side of coleslaw which was not on the plate , the waiters response was ‘ sometimes the chef leaves it off as people don’t eat it’. We asked our waiter for sauces, they were brought out half way through our meal. The staff member went away to get them, another one came back telling us a member of her staff was crying because we were all so rude to her. This was not the case. We waited patiently, sauces did not arrive. We asked a second time and the response was ‘ a please would go a long way’. Following this , every staff member was rude and would not approach our table. When the portion of chips were delivered it was slammed down on the table in an extremely rude manner. We asked to speak with the manager. The manager took around 15 minutes to arrive to the table, at this point we just wanted to pay and leave. The manager was calm and understanding. He listened appropriately , understood our concerns and did not charge us for our meal. We were happy with the compensation for the shocking experience and felt it was a fair way to settle things. We eat out a lot and we have never experienced such bad customer service. We will not return to this restaurant ever again. During our experience the table next to us had ordered dessert, it did not arrive so they asked for the bill and wanted to leave. We were not the only people experiencing poor service.
Highlight: Breakfast was fantastic. As was the woman running it, seemingly by herself Otherwise, the Archangel has gone downhill. Got ignored when trying to check in. Handed a key and told what time breakfast was from and room was at front. Seemed like an inconvenience to staff Bed possibly not changed. Fresh make-up on the pillow from the previous occupants. Room was close to a function room and no sound baffle, so quite loud up to around midnight. In-room toilet door didn't shut properly without pulling hard, so opening was noisy in the night. Or just don't bother. Toilet lid not soft close Saturday night, at closing time, staff put music on. The sound system under our room hadn't been muted so we were subjected to *loud* music. Barman looked confused when I asked for it to be turned down. Another member of staff came from behind, very apologetic and turned it off. But why start music at 23:00+ when orders are closing and you have guests? Didn't see much sign of management or leadership. Staff didn't really seem to care about their guests or their experience. Only exception was the woman who served us breakfast. She was awesome. I'd be hard pushed to want to stay again
Food was okay, when it eventually arrived. Service was incredibly slow and we had to go and hunt down staff to get the bill. The dining room was left to its own devices, the fire was on the verge of going out, and the room itself was fairly noisy. Not awfully relaxing or even enjoyable. I doubt we shall return.Food: 3/5
I booked a table for lunch using the online booking service provided on the restaurants website for 2:15pm and when I arrived at the venue I overheard two members of staff at the bar rudely discussing the fact that my party hadn’t arrived yet and when I announced that we’d arrived, as I was asked by a member of staff if I knew that the kitchen closed at 2:30pm. I wasn’t aware of that fact and was pretty stunned. I don’t understand why any booking system would allow you to book a lunchtime reservation at 2:15pm if the kitchen is closing imminently? We were eventually served and we did have an ok meal but we felt very rushed to order and one of the items was missing from our order we asked for it again and it arrived as we’d finished eating once our food arrived that was it, we didn’t see the staff again really, we were just left to our own devices which was fine but there was no professionalism - the unused starter cutlery or wine glasses on our table could have been removed, the staff could have been friendlier, more attentive and less abrasive. I was also told by a member of staff that they’d been busy that day as they’d had lots of big tables in, so I was sort of getting the vibe that actually they wanted their shift to be over. The table behind us wasn’t cleared, neither were the tables in the restaurant area opposite us so it seemed pretty chaotic. The toilets were filthy and there were no paper towels not a fan of using a communal hand towel, thanks but no thanks overall coming here was a pretty underwhelming experience and we won’t be returning.
Do not book to stay in the room with a shower only Room 7!! On arrival this room wasn’t a pleasant surprise or as described at all. The bedding had a stain on it, the drinking glasses were dirty, urine in the toilet and the room was insanely hot and extremely small. The room is in the court yard and all the smoke from the smoking area comes under the door and into the room and you have to fight your way through people and tables to get through the room door. We were that disappointed and unhappy we decided to leave. This was a birthday surprise that was completely ruined! They agreed to refund me and now I have waited 3 weeks and still have no refund and company is not responding to emails or sorting it out, even stated that I didn't pay when I have provided proof from my bank statement.
One of the best roast dinners I've had! I don't usually go out for roasts as I'm always dissapointed had better at home, but thought I'd treat my Grandma on Easter Sunday and we were thrilled. We had the Lamb roast; good portion, moist and tender meat, perfect roasties and good quality gravy. I asked for more gravy, and they happily provided more we're big gravy lovers. Would definitely come again.
Having booked a table on 29th January for a special Birthday dinner on Feb 23rd and I’d told them it was a special event we were telephone at 2.00 today 21st Feb to cancel our booking. The kitchen is closed apparently and they’ve known for a week . Apparently someone forgot to phone me! Absolutely disgraceful and inept service and management. Don’t bother going!
Dreadful place. We had a reservation made online and the staff couldn't find us on the system. We were then showed into a cold side room and waited ages to be served. We ordered drinks and then a large group of people were placed on the table behind us. We waited to order our food for some time. A man put the bottle of water We ordered on the table with no glasses and then another waitress proceeded to take the order of the large table even though we had been waiting and had repeatedly gestured to say we wanted to order. In the end we just walked out as we had not been able to order any food. Absolutely shocking service!
Thanks so much to the team working last night, we booked the upstairs function rooms for a surprise birthday and were so well looked after by all the bar staff, everyone was so friendly and accommodating and the space was perfect for us! Thank you Archangel team!
