A distant relative of mine John Bellis was shot and killed in this shop by a scorned girlfriend named Maud Amelia Eddington in January 1901. In her defence she claimed that she had gone to the shop to commit suicide as she claimed she could not live without him. Maud Amelia Eddington stated that she had tried to shoot herself and after the first shot failed to end her life that John Bellis ran towards her and in the ensuing struggle to remove the gun from her hand - two more shots were fired,. one entered the face of John Bellis breaking a tooth and became embedded in his brain, the 'fatal shot' struck him one and a half inches behind his left ear and also entered his brain. He was found slumped next to some packages close to the door leading to the back of the shop which was then part of the living quarters of the building, Maud Amelia Eddington was sentenced to 15 months hard labour for her attempted suicide and was cleared of the killing of John Bellis on the grounds that she did not enter the shop to do so.
This shop has been in my family for generations an has always played a big part in our lives. This shop Is small but the owners and staff are very kind and helpful and there has been noting that I don't like about this shop. I love everything about this shop and wish to work at this shop as I have to be a big fan of anything pet related.
