Absolutely outstanding friendly place situated in a stunning scenic location that makes the place a must. Staff are really friendly and nothing seems a problem with customer service as it should be. The food is gorgeously fresh and to die for. The rooms are comfortable and situated on the first floor. Breakfast available with a variety of hot and cold foods. The bar seemed friendly with a well arranged bar with all the usual drinks and a variety of gins and spirits available. A must venue for family's and couples alike with stunning walks and views to enjoy. Thanks.
Arrived at the pub by surprise as we had intended to walk along the Wansbeck as far as our energy would allow. However lunch beckoned as we arrived at the Angler's Arms. What a great little pub. The meal I had was lovely and well presented. My other half only fancied something simple like a baked potato with salad but either was not on the menu. No problem madam! Sure enough, one baked potato plus salad. On top of all that there is a pool table and dart board. Both of which were in full use. Great pub and highly recommended.
It has to be 5 - 6yrs ago since we where here, not so busy now but, the meals are still excellent. There was 5 of us and, everyone ordered something different, little bit of a wait but worth it, 5 cleared plates. If you give it a try DON'T be put off if there's not many in, the chef's very good.
Very disappointing. First 2 nights were great – no heating or hot water due to boiler issues but not a problem as an electric heater was provided in the room for comfort & shower was electric. Good breakfast cooked fresh with a few different options. Sadly third night Friday was dreadful – staying above a pub I expected noise but with the advertised last orders being at 11pm I didn’t expect to be kept awake by loud music and general bar noise until 2am. A member of staff tried to claim when asked the following morning that this was from another guest room as the bar music is switched off at 11.30 – this was definitely not the case – my room was directly above the bar and the music + noise was coming from a sizable group singing and shouting in the bar downstairs. I note other reviewers have also had this issue. The property makes you pre-book your breakfast time – I chose 08.30 for my stay. The last morning following the noise troubles no one was there for the hot breakfast, nor were any of the cold breakfast items out and no places were set. I arrived 8.30 as booked – no one there. 8.45, same. Gave up trying at 9am when I found the dining room door was now locked so someone was clearly on-site. With a long drive ahead & now having to waste time finding breakfast somewhere else I was keen to check out but could not find anyone to help. Knocks on the now-locked door were either not heard or ignored. In the end I just left the keys in the unlocked room and left via the fire escape, alerting the property via facebook messenger where the keys were. The member of staff who replied to the message told me they had somehow been told to have breakfast ready at 0815 but that they had waited until 0845 for me. Given that I went into both the restaurant and the bar area at 0830 and 0845 and there was not a soul in sight, just a load of half-finished drinks on the bar from the night before. I am not sure where else I would be expected to make my presence known as the previous 2 mornings a member of staff had been waiting between the bar and restaurant area. Room itself was comfortable enough and spacious, bathroom seemed to have had some electrical issues with three separate areas where wiring is exposed. Sadly due to final night’s experience cannot recommend and definitely will not stay again. Property owner needs to have a serious look at their procedures.
Lovely pub, staff are very friendly. Nice and clean pub. Food is amazing too!
Came to stay at the Anglers Arms to just get a welcome break but thoughly enjoyed our stay the room overlooked the park and river and as an extra treat there was a music festival happening right outside so had a lovely afternoon listening to some great music. Then got ready for dinner in the restaurant I had the Whale cod and chips which was delicious and definitely a large one! my husband went for the three course special menu which fully filled him and finished with sticky toffee pudding yum yum. We both had a great night's sleep and it was very quiet. Thanks to Joanne and John and all the staff. We will be back.
Had breakfast again today . A brilliant well cooked with local ingredients . Cooked well and staff that care about what they do
I booked the Anglers Arms for my mum's wake and they did an excellent job. Buffet was lovely and plenty for all. Staff were very attentive and courteous. It was excellent value and I would recommend them for any function. Joanne and John were really helpful. We did have Sunday lunch there a few weeks ago and certainly didnt go hungry!
