Definitely worth a stop in to see George for a tour. There is some amazing information about the start of the Army Rangers and the President Andrew Jackson and his family and presidential history.
The Andrew Jackson Cottage was amazing to see and the guide brilliant. He had a turf fire burning! The US Rangers Museum was superb.....who knew this was in Carrickfergus under our noses. Very interesting and informative.
Went on European Heritage Open Day. Greeted by Sean, the site's tour guide, we were emersed in a historical experience that I would have never thought to receive. Sean have us a personal tour of the centre and brought us through its origins and the origins of the US Rangers. Top class experience in such a tiny corner of Ireland. We decided to take the train from Belfast to Carrickfergus and visited the castle. If travelling to the centre, I would advise taking the train to Downshire.
The US Rangers played an important role in the liberation of Europe. Most people don't even know that the unit was born in Northern Ireland and is the US equivalent of the Commando's. Brave US volunteers came to our shores to fight the Germans. Let's not forget the bravery of the people military and civilian in those days that worked together to give us our freedom. Some never returned and made the ultimate sacrifice, cutting short a life that never had a chance to go past WW2.
A piece of history and things you learn. Amazing how so many countries really effect one another, let us never forget this. A must stop on any journey through this beautiful country.
Well worth stopping or even going out of your way to pay a visit. Really well preserved traditional thatched cottage and interesting museum room about the rangers being formed in Carrickfergus. The guide was very friendly and knowledgeable as well

Today my family and I visited and had the best time!!! Sean was our host and shared so many great stories with us about the history of President Jackson and his family. He also shared so much about surrounding areas and their history which was fascinating. I grew up in Carrickfergus and had no idea we had such a great gem hidden. I highly recommend everyone go and visit this wonderful attraction.....just make sure it’s a day that Sean is there. A pleasure to talk to someone so knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the history of Carrickfergus and it’s link to the States.
Called in today 2/1/20 on the last day of our New Year trip to Belfast. Thoroughly enjoyed it, what a lovely place and really well set up. We were met by the lovely Ginny who was very informative but who was also really interested in our knowledge of WWII we are reenactors. Highly recommend anyone paying a visit to this little cottage and museum.
The cottage is beautiful, with a nice peat fire to greet you. The US Rangers museum was an eye opener! All these years I had no idea of important things that had originated in Carrickergus. Sean the guide was very informative and friendly - had a great chat!
