What a super place this is. I attended a wellbeing walk with Derbyshire wildlife trust, and I was really impressed with this park. The old hall is no longer open but there are toilet facilities available. There are plenty of well trod paths to follow, or you could just walk around your own way. There's a lake with water fowls, red kites souring over the trees, and gorgeous natural plants and flowers. It is a great place for adults, kids, and dogs, and the car park is free, too. Restrooms: Very clean and tidy. Dog-friendliness: There is plenty of space for dogs to run around and also places for them to investigate. Picnic area: There are benches scattered around for public use.
Our favourite park in derby. It’s so peaceful. There are so many different paths to take walks. We love wandering around the lake and up into the forest. It’s a great park for den building.
Absolutely beautiful park to visit. Has a Downton Abbey feel about it. Lots of walking trails, a beautiful lake and various woody areas for a great sensory adventure for our dogs. There is ample parking and a few, not many, poo bins. There are no toilets. Lots of benches dotted around for those who need a break and there is a path that would, in my opinion, be suitable for a wheelchair.
A beautiful very big park to explore with a large lake. Lots of wildlife is encouraged. Lots of exploring for children to do. Making better soon by introducing more Highland cattle.... yet to find the others now I know they are there... somewhere! Love Allestree Park.
The park seems to be mainly used as a local dog walking location. The Hall is abandoned public toilets are still open and the park area itself was until 2020 a golf course. Nature walks will take you through woodland and open green areas. Views of the surrounding countryside are outstanding. There is a lake which attracts a number of waterfowl species, including swans and various types of ducks. No refreshment facilities available on-site at least not at the time of our visit. Restrooms: Toilets were open at the time of our visit Dog-friendliness: Dogs allowed throughout the park, but are required to be kept on a lead around the wildlife lake area. Picnic area: Picnic tables or seating benches are located around the park area
What a gem! All this location needs is a small business allowed to operate out of the main house or outbuildings This would make this area even more inviting, but what a location, totally beautiful huge area Lush green rolling hills, perfect for a walk/dog walk we packed a picnic and headed to the lake, was a warm sunny day sitting by the lake enjoying good food and such tranquil settings If you've not been I highly recommend a visit, we had limited time so there is much more we plan to see Top location Edit Love the location that much its going to come part of our weekly walks, went today and explored further Discovered some rather large hills with stunning views and vantage points just needs a bench on the top then went off trail in the big woods to the back of the Hall Where we found carpets of bluebells and a little stream or natural spring flowing from the top. Took some really great photos but they don't do the place justice I highly recommend this location Restrooms: The rest rooms were old but we'll built and rather clean Dog-friendliness: Area is often a prime spot for dog walkers, well looked after and bins Picnic area: Come take a look and you will know Benches all over rolling hills, loads of open space
Lots of dog walkers, and my old doggo loves meeting all the wonderful doggos on their walks. Paths not suitable to cycle on due to dogs and small children and blind corners. Contrary to other reviews, there are toilets and they are behind the stately house. Main lawn/green is mowed and suitable for ball games, picnics and chilling. On weekends there is a mobile ice cream van on the green. Since closure of the golf course during covid, the surrounding areas are being left to wild but have wide mowed paths which are perfect for access anywhere in this huge park. There are plenty of entrances into all sides of the park so you're not limited to the main entrance off the A6. Main car park is atrocious. Id call it car suspension breakers with the amount, and depth of the craters which have never been repaired or filled in the past 10 years I've been going there. Hence 4 stars.
Lovely park complete with golf course and lake. You can sit and watch the geese and ducks or do a bit fishing. There are carp in the lake. The photos show some huge catches. We enjoyed our picnic under the shady trees. After we had a lovely stroll round the grounds and then back up the trail to the free car park. There are toilet facilities near the golf shop. They were very well kept. Well worth a visit.
What a gem this park is, I am so glad we found it and came for a visit. Where shall I start really the park has free parking, yey we do love free parking, plenty of space for visitors. Once you park you will notice that there are few information boards identifying the different trails you can take. We just winged it really and just walked around all the woodlandy and shaded areas as it is too hot, however some of those grassy areas did look really good and well maintained. The pathways eventually take you to the lake. It's beautiful, clear water, there are few swans and ducks too and the doggies loved dipping their paws in. Please be mindful that on the other side of the lake there are few houses and some of their hedges are a bit low in case you have a Dora the Explorer fur baby There were also few fisherman about but they do have designated areas just on one side of the lake so not an issue really. No horses or livestock about that I can see so another bonus. A really great place for jogging, gentle stroll or a light bike ride. Overall, definitely a must see, we are going back when it's a bit cooler so we can walk the whole park.
Fantastic place to walk through a forest or meet friends for a friendly game of rounders
