Reviews
The location of the hotel is great. The rooms are large and clean and a walk to the center was very enjoyable and took only 10 minutes. Our room smelt like an Amsterdam coffee shop. If I'd paid a bit less than £70 I'd have felt better. The shower was dire and there was only one old, thin pillow each. The matress was cheap and very squeaky and the curtains are thinner than tracing paper. A few minor improvements and this place would be great.
This is not a hotel. It is a self-service hostel with no staff on premises. The main gate does not open properly. The building is extremely run down, with damaged carpet. The front door, interior door, and room doors all have issues closing. The keycode provided for me to access my room key did not work. No staff answer the phone number after hours. I was able to enter my room only because the door was not closed and it was possible to enter without a key. The room was extremely run down with obvious damage on the walls and floor. The wifi did not work adequately to make calls unless I stood in the entryway. Other guests had similar problems though everyone else was able to enter their rooms. The walls were paper thin and it was easy to hear people in all rooms. I ultimately needed to find emergency accommodation at another hotel late at night. Photos on website are misleading. I think this was originally a bed and breakfast, but sold to a property management company who converted it into a self-service hostel style environment. Make sure to ignore any reviews older than 2 years, which seems to be about when everything changed. I am going to contact the city council to try to find out if they're aware of this; I am really surprised accommodation laws do not prohibit this kind of arrangement.
It's a shame. This used to be such a great place when it was family run. Now it's pretty run down. The furniture has stains, the flooring is loose, the bathroom smells, the TV has no signal. The bedframe was so worn, I had to move the slats all onto one side. Avoid the room by the entrance room 13. When drunk guests get home in the middle of the night, they can't manage to open the door lock, so they bang on the door until you wake up and let them in. Location is still great, in the heart of Uplands with pubs and shops nearby, and the university within 20 min walking distance
Read previous reviews. We stayed at the queen size bed downstairs. First we noticed that you hear hear anyone coming in. Then we noticed that it's worse than pictures. Then that Windows are old and all cars can be heard. Let's get to the point. I was woken up at night by people desperately banging on the door. I stood up and went to scare them but it turned out they were guess with keys but door locked outside automatically.. same occurences recorded. I left door opened via lock and heard another person come in. Over all it was clean and I slept relatively well but there is a lot of damage and noise and no number to call at all.
Absolutely terrible. I booked a two night accommodation for myself, my wife and my 5 year old using Alexander hotel website. I received a booking confirmation email but there was no mention of access codes. The accommodation is deceptively advertised as hotel but it is just a property with rooms managed through access codes and there is no reception or customer service staff. I travelled 200 miles for my holiday in Wales assuming that I had 2 nights accommodation. When I reached there, I was flummoxed to know that the property require access codes. I tried contacting the phone number mentioned in the email but no one answered the call. Luckily, I managed to find some other hotel, otherwise, I would have canceled my holiday and travelled 200 miles back home. I would avoid these people at any cost.
I booked 2 rooms with private bathroom for 2 nights. The first night I found that the bathroom shower had no cold water and couldn't take a shower. Called the landlord, no response. Leave a message to the landlord. The next day, the landlord wanted me to go to the public bathroom, so I booked a room with a private bathroom and had to queue with others to use it. The room sound insulation is poor, all kinds of equipment are old, I will never stay in this hotel again.
Front door entry system chaotic. Very hit and miss. Palm pad has had abuse applied I guess because of the hit miss rate. Unable to contact owner on tel no out front. My room 7 fronts to the busy road and the window doesn't reduce traffic noise at all even when lock closed. Not a hotel in the normal sense, more a multi roomed occupancy house with some rooms shared bathrooms. Slightly overpriced for a single. Only on a one night stopover for the Gower Peninsula.
I stayed here 7/8 years ago and it was delightful. This visit, however, not so delightful. The room looked and felt like some cheap student accommodation. The two lights in the room didn’t work meaning the only light was the bright ceiling light. The window blind was broken in a disgusting state to be left. The mattress on the bed leaned to one side meaning I constantly found myself almost falling off the bed many times during the night. Very disappointed after looking forward to this visit. I most certainly won’t return & won’t recommend it. I have photos of the state of the window blind & lights. If this was a chain hotel I’d be getting a refund.
My friends stayed here when they came to visit. The hotel is not manned and when they had problems, no one answered the phone or replied to their emails the whole 3 days. Their shower was stuck on boiling hot so they were not able to shower,on top of that, the TV wouldn't work. They also saw someone who was unable to get into their room because the key was stuck in the room door and he was sitting outside his room and had been trying to call for two hours. The room was nice and clean but the service was just terrible...
There was no hot water. Rang 10 times to get through to someone nobody on site to be told it'll be 30 minutes for someone to come out. We didn't have 30 minutes and from what we can tell this isn't the first review on no hot water. Dirty room with dead flies around. Insanely loud at night with other guests both from their rooms and communal areas. Not particularly comfortable bed. I know it's cheap but we've stayed in similarly priced places that were significantly better. Don't bother with this one.
