It’s a shame for me to say this after having had a great burger here recently but the sunday roast experience was very disappointing. The service was not good throughout our visit, the timings between each interaction with a member of staff were too long. We felt like they had forgotten about us and they were running around. Then when we asked for the dessert menu, it was thrown on our table. I ordered the lamb and it was okay but the roast potatoes were overdone and my Yorkshire pudding was cremated. As for dessert, the ice cream with my sticky toffee pudding had melted by the time it reached our table. Totally underwhelming.
What a lovely place made lovelier by the people who work there. We had a special occasion and the host, who is absolutely charming and kind, and the young woman waiting on our table, also absolutely charming and kind, helped us celebrate. The burger was not the best we’ve had, the patty was way too thick and the bread couldn’t hold the burger together. But the Burratta with grilled peaches was excellent so was the dessert chocolate brownie cheesecake. Will be returning to experience their wonderful hospitality and food and pub again.
Had a nice Sunday lunch here. The pub is set in a lovely area with a great pub garden. The food arrived quickly, great roast but the potatoes were quite dry as was the Yorkshire pudding.Food: 4/5
We were exploring the Islington area during a sunny weekday and came across this beautiful pub. Its garden is superb and having a drink there is a wonderful experience. The staff is very friendly, thanks.Service: 5/5
We came in for the Sunday Roast tonight and everything, and I mean everything, was amazing! We each had a variety of roasts, including roast beef, pork, lamb and chicken, and OMG... They were delicious! Desserts were equally sublime... The sticky toffee pudding, rice pudding, meringue, and custard pie were absolutely delicious. Service was awesome, the ambiance was great, and we can't wait to come back. Simply stellar supper. Dietary restrictions: Great for gluten allergy folks!
Nice pub setting however the drinks are over priced and the quality of food is miserable. This burger cost me £20. It had a slice of nondescript cheese, some pickle and a tiny bit of salad. Embarrassing really. Go there for an expensive beer but avoid the food. There are plenty of better places to eat nearby that don’t claim to be gastro…
Excellent Sunday Roast! The place is lovely as well as the service the waitress was really nice and polite. The food was perfect with delicious and well cooked meat lamb and pork and the portion was more than generous. I'd definitely come back this summer to try the outdoor dining areaFood: 5/5
£102 for two mains, one side dish, bread and a glass of wine each is just too much when the quality is less than excellent. Partridge was chewy, bland and plonked in front of me with the same amount of love clearly shown to it in the kitchen. None. Accompanying turnip was like a hockey puck, wanting to shoot off the plate every time the fork came near. The miso cabbage side was delicious, should have ordered 10 of those.
My new favorite pub in London. We came for a quick drink, but ended up staying for Sunday Roast. The Yorkshire pudding was delicious - it was crisp on the outside but soft on the inside. The roasted veggies were actually roasted and not soggy from the meat! The star of the lunch was actually the Scotch egg. Perfectly jammy and runny on the inside, but crunchy on the outside. They also had a kind of mustard sauce that we kept eating along with our potatoes later in the meal.
Lovely pub and nice setting. Unfortunately our dining experience was very poor. The mackerel for one of our group was uncooked and when it was returned to the kitchen it came back with the comment that it is not going to do you any harm, so no apology despite it being quite visibly raw. The serving staff were very good but very surprised at the attitude from the kitchen. I expect there is a captive market in Barnsbury given the charm of the pub but also can’t understand why they can’t get men’s toilets to flush leaving what can only be described as ‘sausage and mash’ in the toilet pan, not something that is very appealing in a restaurant.
