It was a interesting experience although there cafe was a lovely quaint environment they are clueless when it comes to what a ripe avo is. If your serving a club sandwich with avocado rather say its out of stock than give unripe over green. This being said staff were warm and friendly, loads of charm. Let the one star be a reminder of not to give unripe avocados
Lovely setting, can easily spend 45minutes to an hour here. Great restaurant on site, good free parking. All the staff helpful..antiques, crafts, gift shop and reasonable priced. Would definitely recommend.
We have visited this craft and antiques centre over the years and enjoyed our visits. Yesterday, we arrived with a group of 14 of walking club friends at at about 10 am and asked the manager we think she was! if we could park the five cars carefully on the unmarked area in a far corner of the large car park while we went for a walk,and would then return for tea and cakes in the cafe, together with a look around the centre. We were sternly told "one car only only as the car park gets busy with customers." We pointed out we also were customers.She repeated her stern "one car" holding up one finger. This was a big disappointment as there is very limited parking nearby and this is a very attractive area for rambling. Also, in all our many visits there, we have never seen the car park full and this was a weekday and not a busier weekend. This has certainly put us all off from further visits. Later, we took our custom to the delightful and very welcoming "On the Corner" cafe in Caerwys for a very pleasant afternoon tea! For the record, we returned at 3pm to see a near empty car park. We counted spaces for 25 cars We will not be recommending that our our friends visit the cafe at the Afonwen Craft Centre until we hear that their customer care has improved.
Staff are very friendly and efficient. The food was the hottest l have eaten for a long time. Antiques l feel are a bit on the pricey side but not a load of tack. Could do with a few more handmade sections . Over all a good place to visit .
We have just had an Easter Saturday meal at Afonwen. The food was lovely and all the staff were so friendly. Then we had a look around the centre and the gift shop. Where the staff were also very friendly. It was a very pleasant way to spend a Saturday. Will hopefully go again. And would definitely recommend it to others. Also I forgot to mention the desserts. Amazing. Spoilt for choice and homemade.
Edenshine Restaurant is wonderful. Great quality unpretentious food some more traditional dishes. Service is fantastic and desserts - well always hard to choose as they're all always gorgeous as are the cakes. Bit underwhelmed as far as the antiques go as they don't seem to change that often.
Great place if looking for antiques or ornaments/trinkets. Cafe popular with a good choice of food and attentive staff. Ample free parking. Worth a visit.
Looking at the other reviews for Afonwen and I see some disappointing comments. Each to there own and you must make your own decision from your own experience. Driving Chester earlier in the day, We noticed the brown sign and thought we should explore on our way back, which we did. Arriving about lunchtime and noticing that there was also a restaurant on site was a bonus. The Antiques centre was clean and very well presented, no piles of boxes or pictures to rummage through and staff polite and not following you round. The Antiques extended to almost every area not in use. Nice to see that there is a list of visiting arts and crafts sales and demonstrations. On this visit we saw people enjoying painting. The crafts and gift shop was well stocked and again staff being friendly and helpful. Now the Jewel in the Crown. Edenshine Restaurant. We had noticed how busy it was when we were in the gift shop but decided to have a coffee. Like all good restaurants we had to wait to be seated for only a few minutes when the young lady came out. She asked if we had made a reservation and of course we hadn't as it was not planned. She apologies and asked if we could wait while she looked to see if she could accommodate us. The restaurant was extremely busy. A few moments later she had a table for 2 and gave us the menu. We gave her our order, BLT and a Burger n chips. Shortly after the drinks arrived and not long after that our food. The BLT o my god what a portion and it came with a wonderful side salad and as for the burger, I went large and wow I had to use my knife n fork to get through it. We wasn't going to have desert but seeings them go by too others, we decided on the lemon cheesecake which was tasted as good as it looked and was presented in my view for fine dining. All the staff we interacted with in Edenshine Restaurant were brilliant. The phone number is stored and we have already decided that Edenshine is going to be a place to bring friends and family. Can't wait to give the Full Welsh Breakfast a go. Thank you Edenshine for a brilliant unexpected lunch. Magnificent. G
Excellent place for antiques and for fabulous food. I would highly recommend coming here for a day out.
Only a quick visit on Mothers Day. Bought two sweetheart broaches and a 1960 clock. Lovely place and lovely people will come back again.
