Aberdour Castle
"The driveway and gardens are open last entry 4.45pm. The castle remains closed. This splendid ruin was once the luxurious Renaissance home and pleasure gardens of Regent Morton, at the time Scotland's most powerful man. Aberdour was originally built as a fortified residence in the 1100s, making it one of the oldest stone castles in the country. The fine painted ceilings dates from the 1600s."

Beautiful place, very interesting history, beautiful gardens, nice but small cafe and gift shop, limited parking but free parking at station right next to castle. Well worth a visit.
Beautiful Castle,Old doocot and gardens. Staff were very helpful and friendly.
The entrance is free for Historic Scotland members. We just parked in a free parking very close to the castle, in Livingstone lane . The staff is very kind and friendly and there is a one way system to visit the castle. The gardens are huge and there is a curious beehive-shaped doocot. There are 3 picnic tables between the castle and the gardens, as well as toilets close tot he shop.
The castle is well maintained, it's picturesque, with a plethora of informative plaques. At £6 per adult it's also quite cheap to visit, but I'd recommend you to become a member of the Historic Scotland, as the ticket is then included in the membership.
Lovely castle to visit. Not much parking area by the castle itself, but you can park further down the lane and walk up to it easily, some slightly hilly parts for wheelchairs and pushchairs though. You can get in from the other side to the main entrance if the garden entrance is open and that would be better access. Nice well kept grounds. Friendly staff with a tea room that sells great scones/cream teas. Lots of areas to walk around, great for kids.
This is a lovely wee castle to visit, especially on a bright summers day with your family. There's loads to see and do in the castle grounds and the views across Silversands Bay are fantastic. If you've got kids it's the perfect place to let them run wild as there's plenty of wide open green spaces, and if you've got a Historic Scotland membership it's free to get in too. Winner!
Beautiful castle and gardens to explore that are a mix of ruins & complete rooms that allow you to envisage life here when the castle was in use. The painted ceiling is a lovely example is decor from the 18th century too. Its also worth having a potter around the graveyard of the church next to it many old graves to explore.
Great castle... Part ruin but great grounds, doocot, walled garden and 12th century church. Good for children and they can tour the castle and grounds, answering questions in a quiz and receive a sticker on completion. The quiz can also be used as a school project as its verified by staff. The guide was friendly, very informative and helpful. Also very patient with kids questions! Limited parking but can car park fairly near in town. The toilets were clean and tidy and plenty of benches and seats to sit outside. Didn't go into the cafe so don't know if it's take out and/or sit down. Really recommend it for a nice day out.
