Booked a Luton van for 4 hours overnight, in total I did 13 miles, filled up van at petrol station nearest to AMK, the pump clicked so I stopped there it was about 1 mile away from them but when I returned the van with petrol receipt, the woman Susan said that I had only put 1 lt of diesel which looked not a lot. I explained I had only done very few miles, this was before her colleague checked the van and I pointed out that the diesel receipt actually showed 1.74 lt which is closer to 2 lt and not 1. The colleague had van running for couple of minutes while doing his checks then drove van to the back and then brought back the contract and reported 13 miles and the woman told me that van took 1.1 lt to fill up. I was charged £1.74, and it is not for the small amount of money but the principle. How can I return a van full to the brim of diesel if I need to drive to their hire center? I hire cars abroad 3/4 times a year and I've never witnessed anything like it. Petrol gauge should be enough to deduct if vehicle tank is full or not, usually agent turns engine on checks gauge reads full and that's the end of story, never had anybody filling tank up in their backyard. When abroad I fill up at last petrol station on motorway as easier than trying to find a local one near hire center so I can drive up to 5-6 miles before returning car and never had any issues.nI've read other reviews and I noticed I'm not the only one that has had this issue.nShame as van was in great condition and would have given a 5 star review.nI actually called them the day after to give my reasons but I was told that I should have filled tank right up as diesel foams when filling therefore need to let pump click 2-3 times What a load of ****. I pointed out that then I would need to have a canister to top up tank once back to their center to make sure tank if full right to the brim. Think just a way to make a wee extra earner on all the van hire returns, they should be reported.
I hired a van for one day recently and filled it up before returning it. The van took £2.70 of diesel I couldn’t find my receipt but found it after the bald guy checked the van.nI had only done a short journey locally with the van .nAlthough I had found and showed him the receipt he still charged me £2.70 off my deposit.nIt is only a couple of pounds but on reading previous reviews this is a common occurrence with this company.nI would warn other hirers to be vigilantnand to have your receipt in your hand.nI always like supporting local companies but would never hire from AMK again.
I've used AMK a couple of times over the years and they have never let me down. Easy to deal with and the vehicles have always been sufficient for the intended use. I'd definitely recommend them.
First class service from beginning to end. I actually mistakenly booked the vehicle for longer than I needed it, and they refunded me the extra day I didn't need without any quibble.
