Impossible to do business with this business/person now; I find. So I would say not worth trying to. I once did and bought a motorbike. The bike was OK (even though later all the fairing screws etc did work loose); It rode sweetly on the test-ride. This was really the only time this business made me smile and feel good. So I thought all would bode well for the future. I thought this was a person I would do business in the future. How wrong was I now go in with a smile and come out with a frown. I constantly find now this person can not be trusted; and is supremely arrogant and rude. This has been a constant theme that I have seen for over a decade; so it is not just a "one off" or a " bad day" for him. Several times I have been back over the years to either look for a bike;get a job done or possibly get a job done. However he *always*seems to get cocky; and like to keep people waiting and guessing and hanging about at a loose end. He seems to like that; on a power ego trip. I have constantly found that it is a waste of ones time going there with the intention of trying to get anything done; or to know when you could get it done. Even buying the bike had its challenges though with his glimpses of arrogance shining through. He just curtailed them enough for me to be able to complete the sale. However all future visits to the shop to look for parts or changing bike (but when I was not crucially buying a bike) always has put me completely off. Incidentally whilst attempting to buy the bike on my bank card; it froze my whole bank account because (as it turned out) there was a fault with the business' pay terminal. ( I only realised that later form the bank) In the past he has said some things are possible; then when I have returned says that they are not. I got a quote once for a job which was considerably higher (over twice from what I remember) of other motorcycle establishments. I have also found that whilst in the middle of an important crucial part of a conversation (that could be wrapped up in a few seconds); he will just go off to get on the phone (on an unrelated conversation); and you are kept "hanging". Doesn't seem to like the idea that you may be buying a motorcycle from someone else; (when all his stock motorbikes are of a different style or sort to what is being sought). And all of this when one is a previous customer. I have also been surprised to hear him say how stupid a customer of his was to buy a bike (from this business) and ride it back some distance; when it had not been used for a while. What? Er hello........ So go here if you want to have some of your time wasted, getting nowhere; be talked down to;not getting straight answers, and hear how "stupid" some of his other customers are. Go in with a smile; and come out with a frown; as that has been my experience for years now.

I took my sports bike in with a specific list of things I wanted them to do. Mechanically I believe these jobs were done ok, but the finished job was shoddy: The fairings were not put back together properly, there were washers left off and there was messy lumps of grease left on the frame in a number of places. More importantly though, was the fact that he decided to 'top up' my sealed battery. I did not ask him to do anything with the electrics at all as I have never had even the slightest indication of any problems here. Unfortunately he managed to kill my perfectly good battery, I guess by overfilling it, because it then leaked into the battery box, out of the drain hole and leaked battery fluid onto the frame, swingarm and suspension which is now marked permanently. When I quizzed him about it he told me they didn't even remove the battery from the bike to top it up. That is really shoddy as it needs to be done with care and in a way where you can see what you are doing, which you can't when the battery is on the bike. In other words the standard he works to is very low. Eventually I got a new battery (which I had to pay for) and at no point did they hold their hands up and accept that they made a mistake. Instead there was a constant stream of BS, and I eventually I just thought all I can do here is not use him again and let others know so they can make an informed choice. Another strange thing is this: When I first took the bike down to him we got talking about MOTs. He said that my plate was legal because he could read it fine from 25m (I know it's legal because it passed its last MOT just fine, and I spent a day with the police advanced riders and they said it was fine...) But Mr Bartlett said that instead of passing the MOT with the current plate, he would make up a full size number plate and charge me for it in the MOT bill. So very strange and another reason why I would just take it somewhere else: somewhere that won't rip me off to the tune of £30 for something I don't need. I mentioned the whole debacle to a biker friend who immediately guessed what shop I was talking about: He had a very similar experience. For him Bartlett agreed that his bike was within noise allowance for the MOT, but then went and bodged in a baffle anyway, which actually damaged the exhaust. My conclusion is that I don't believe they were trying it on by purposefully busting my battery so I would have to go back and spend more money, but I do think they are incompetent. But perhaps it is both. At the end of the day everybody makes mistakes: what happens after that tells you a lot about the character of the person. In this case there was no acceptance that they got it wrong, no humility, no apology. I don't think they accept they did get it wrong and that to me just shows that the overall standard of the workmanship is poor. If it had been me, I would have been embarrassed to give the bike back in the state they did. You make up your own mind! The reviews on here are not good. No smoke without fire....

I'm afraid to say that my dealings with this company were very unsuccessful. My 16 year old son's 50cc Motor Scooter broke down and I took it to Bartletts for an estimate to repair - they quoted £300 saying the cylinder head needed replacing which would be a 5 hour job. Then they said that they had found a replacement 80cc engine on Ebay - and did I want that? I said that was not affordable and they reduced their original estimate to £160 adding that they had had another look at the bike and it was just a cross headed spark plug. Told them not to go ahead with the work and I would collect the bike from them - and they told me I would have to pay them £60 for an hour and a quarters work providing the estimate. At no time did they mention that they charged for estimates. When I went to collect the scooter it had already been stripped down even though they had not received a go-ahead from me. When I said I was not prepared to pay for this work as I had not authorised it – the owner refused to release the scooter and my son’s safety helmet or the bike key unless I paid them £60. I’m afraid to say that a fierce argument ensued, I was called a c*** and told to f*** off out of his shop.
