the food itself is absolutely delicious! the only issue would be that the space is suitable for small group and intimate dinners. toilets are way down the narrow stairs and the toilet space is really really tiny, the dryer being right by the toilet bowl doesn't really cut it. service seems slower than usual. since the restaurant closes by 11pm, sometimes the waiter could do a little nudging of the customers to order faster and move it along...but of course this wouldn't fit the local dining culture.
I came a bit by chance after seeing an elderly couple enter. Really liked it: delicious, cheaper options available, free sparkling water with the lunch menu. You can eat inside or outside.
1909 was a great find in Dalkey and we had the best dining experience in this restaurant while visiting Dublin for a week from the USA. The staff and food were terrific. The restaurant has a cosy ambiance that provides a nice sanctuary from the fast changing weather elements. We had their Mussels and Fries, Steak and Lamb Shank, which were all cooked to perfection. Two in our group were French, and they LOVED the complex sauce of the mussels. My daughter said she had the best steak ever which was succulent and tender, cooked to perfection. The staff were very friendly and very attentive to us and made us feel very welcome. Highly recommend this restaurant for elevating your Ireland experience. Cheers!
Delicious food at very reasonable prices. Complimentary bottles of water. Best value is lunch special up to 4pm, includes Moules Frites, Pili Pili Prawns and Fish & Chips. Top class dishes priced at only 13 euro 50. Option of dining inside or out. Great atmosphere. Idyllic when the sun is shining. Great service. My only minor fault is the discretionary 10% tip which is applied automatically to the bill. Ironically I would prefer if they charged a little more for the food, and leave the size of the tip to the diners' discretion. Lovely place overall. Well worth a visit. Highly recommended.
Despite the lovely food and atmosphere unfortunately I had an unpleasant experience. As shown in the bill, we order two fish and chips, and for some unexpected reasons one of the two was more expensive than the other one. All the three dishes were selected from the express lunch menu, which runs until the 4pm, and each meal cost 13.95€, with additional charge for the steak very tricky wrtitten in a small text somewhere. The steak and one of the fish and chips came together, while there was some delay with the second fish and chips, as the waitress kindly informed me that he did a mistake when taking the order, which is fine, nothing to say about this. But I found unjustified the different price for the same dishes, considering that they were served within 10 minutes delay one from the other. So overall I liked the place and the food, and nothing to say about the service, as it can happen, but these tricks make you look extremely bad, especially considering that there i a mandatory tip of at least 10%.
It was realy nice! But pls stop putting so much salt in the fries! We can literally see it in this picture. I couldn't eat the fries but the meat was REALY good.Food: 5/5
Make your reservations early. This spot is in high demand. They have earned it. The food is fantastic. The service is great. But the staff makes this an experience you will want to repeat often. There is no finer fare.
We celebrated a fabulous family Birthday last weekend and we visited 1909, what an amazing experience, food was exceptional, we were a table of 10 and 1 child and from start to finish everything was perfect! Our server was so attentive at his job! We also had a lovely complimentary dessert for the Birthday Boy and a little sing song We will definitely be back Kid-friendliness: High chair provided at a table that accommodated us well Dietary restrictions: My best friend is a Coeliac, and was well catered for xx

Lovely food and really lovely staff. We had my daughters christening here today and we really enjoyed our meal. The service was great and staff were really friendly. I would definitely recommend having an afters for a christening, communion or confirmation here. Kid-friendliness: We had plenty of room to move about and an area where the kids could chill out. We had our meal upstairs so it was safe to keep the kids away from the door and other guests
